Gavin Newsom is pushing legislation that would open the floodgates for frivolous lawsuits against the gun industry. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a press conference at Del Mar Fairgrounds last Friday, Newsom spoke about his mission to go on the \u201coffensive\u201d by allowing private citizens, municipalities, and the state attorney general to sue gun makers and sellers for \u201creckless behavior.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCalifornia will continue to lead the fight to end gun violence with bold action to tackle the national crisis putting millions of Californians at risk,\u201d said Gov. 17 Other Reasons You Need a Suppressor<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Per a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2022\/02\/18\/governor-newsom-takes-action-to-hold-the-gun-industry-accountable-and-advance-californias-nation-leading-protections\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-goes-on-the-offensive-against-gun-industry-pushing-legislation-to-bankrupt-firearm-makers\" title=\"Newsom Goes on the 'Offensive' Against Gun Industry, Pushing Legislation to Bankrupt Firearm Makers\u00a0\">press release<\/a> from the governor\u2019s office, the three bills being prioritized are as follows:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB1594\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-goes-on-the-offensive-against-gun-industry-pushing-legislation-to-bankrupt-firearm-makers\" title=\"Newsom Goes on the 'Offensive' Against Gun Industry, Pushing Legislation to Bankrupt Firearm Makers\u00a0\">AB 1594<\/a> would allow individuals and the Attorney General to sue firearm manufacturers and sellers<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB2571\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-goes-on-the-offensive-against-gun-industry-pushing-legislation-to-bankrupt-firearm-makers\" title=\"Newsom Goes on the 'Offensive' Against Gun Industry, Pushing Legislation to Bankrupt Firearm Makers\u00a0\">AB 2571<\/a> would prohibit the marketing of certain categories of weapons to children<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB1621\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-goes-on-the-offensive-against-gun-industry-pushing-legislation-to-bankrupt-firearm-makers\" title=\"Newsom Goes on the 'Offensive' Against Gun Industry, Pushing Legislation to Bankrupt Firearm Makers\u00a0\">AB 1621<\/a> would tighten ghost gun restrictions<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Media <a href=\"https:\/\/fox5sandiego.com\/news\/politics\/newsom-visits-san-diego-county-to-promote-new-gun-control-measures\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-goes-on-the-offensive-against-gun-industry-pushing-legislation-to-bankrupt-firearm-makers\" title=\"Newsom Goes on the 'Offensive' Against Gun Industry, Pushing Legislation to Bankrupt Firearm Makers\u00a0\">outlets<\/a> are covering AB 1594 as a copycat of a controversial Texas law that allows any private citizen to sue an abortion provider even if that individual did not receive an abortion.\u00a0Newsom threatened to propose such a law after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to strike down the Texas policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the California law is modeled more closely after another equally bad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/nssf-goes-after-new-york-public-nuisance-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-goes-on-the-offensive-against-gun-industry-pushing-legislation-to-bankrupt-firearm-makers\" title=\"Newsom Goes on the 'Offensive' Against Gun Industry, Pushing Legislation to Bankrupt Firearm Makers\u00a0\">New York law<\/a> that allows gun makers to be sued for creating a \u201cpublic nuisance.\u201d\u00a0That law has come under fire from the National Shooting Sports Foundation as a blatant attempt to \u201cimpose on the firearm industry a \u2018death by a thousand cuts,\u2019\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/nssf-goes-after-new-york-public-nuisance-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-goes-on-the-offensive-against-gun-industry-pushing-legislation-to-bankrupt-firearm-makers\" title=\"Newsom Goes on the 'Offensive' Against Gun Industry, Pushing Legislation to Bankrupt Firearm Makers\u00a0\">said<\/a> Lawrence Keane of the NSSF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a veto-proof supermajority in both chambers, it&#8217;s likely that Legilsture will move expeditiously to enact the proposed bills.
