Colt is officially putting their 3-inch Python revolver back into production<\/a> for 2022. Once a very limited run of only 500 revolvers, Colt is now remaking the 3-inch, six-shot handgun chambered for .357 Magnum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colt recently brought back the Python and it’s been a huge success. Offered with 4.25- or 6-inch barrel options, the new Pythons blend the timeless design with improved modern manufacturing methods and an updated, stronger frame. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the scarce “Colt Combat Python<\/a>,” the new 3-inch model has a full-length underlug and ejector rod, a single vent rib, interchangeable full-size sights front and rear, and an exposed hammer for double- and single-action shooting. Apart from some internal changes as part of the update, the only major change is the grips and the finish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original revolvers had a deep blued finish and small boot grips. The 3-inch Colt Python has a semi-bright stainless finish and ships with standard full-size grips, although those are easily replaceable. The included grips are checkered walnut with a silver Colt medallion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, the biggest difference between the modern 3-inch model and the rare classic revolver is that these are not irreplaceable pieces of Colt history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These guns, while they are collectible, even heirloom handguns, are meant to be carried and used. They can be loaded with full-house .357 Magnum rounds or light .38 Special target ammunition for different shooting roles, from teaching new shooters, target shooting, revolver sports and naturally, self-defense, if needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weighing in at 40 ounces unloaded, this compact revolver still has enough heft to help control recoil, even shooting hard-hitting ammo. It has an overall length of 8.5 inches and measures about 5.5 inches tall and just over 1.5 inches wide at the cylinder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trigger pull is rated to about 8 pounds in double action, give or take, and about half that in single action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 3-inch model is priced the same as the other new Pythons at $1,499, although demand for these in particular is going to be up there. If you’re interested in picking up a 3-inch Python, jump on the opportunity when you find them in stock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
