{"id":156124,"date":"2021-12-21T14:16:33","date_gmt":"2021-12-21T19:16:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=156124"},"modified":"2021-12-21T14:16:33","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T00:03:37","slug":"report-armed-citizens-are-working-at-southern-border-to-assist-law-enforcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/report-armed-citizens-are-working-at-southern-border-to-assist-law-enforcement\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Armed Citizens Are Working at Southern Border to Assist Law Enforcement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Groups of armed citizens are working at the southern border to help law enforcement find and detain immigrants trying to get into the United States illegally, according to a new report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/in-a-texas-border-town-armed-groups-arrive-to-look-for-migrants-11639668989?mod=flipboard\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"report-armed-citizens-are-working-at-southern-border-to-assist-law-enforcement\" title=\"Report: Armed Citizens Are Working at Southern Border to Assist Law Enforcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some sheriffs are welcoming the help as their communities and criminal justice systems are overwhelmed with the increasing number of migrants. A new Texas law allows state troopers to arrest illegal immigrants on misdemeanor trespassing charges, and these groups are working to find migrants and notify law enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of migrants encountered by the border patrol spiked over the summer to a 21-year high, and even though those numbers have tapered off in recent months, local law enforcement in communities like Kinney County, Texas, have struggled to handle the influx of new trespassers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019ve turned to groups like the Patriots for America Militia for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/pro-2a-militias-are-treasonous\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"report-armed-citizens-are-working-at-southern-border-to-assist-law-enforcement\" title=\"Report: Armed Citizens Are Working at Southern Border to Assist Law Enforcement\">Pro-2A Militias Are \u2018Treasonous\u2019<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Samuel Hall, the leader of this group, told the <em>Journal<\/em> that his volunteers don\u2019t arrest the migrants they find. Like most states, Texas only allows private individuals to arrest other people if they are committing a felony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His group of volunteers conducts patrols on private property to look for migrants who may have crossed the border illegally. If they find someone, they contact local authorities and administer humanitarian aid when necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe told the <em>Journal<\/em> he has met with Hall, and he considered deputizing some of the Patriots for America members until he received pushback from the Texas Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Texas DPS told the <em>Journal<\/em> that it does not support sheriffs working with \u201cmilitias,\u201d but denied accusations that it has threatened to withhold state funding from those who do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinney County is located on the U.S.-Mexico border to the west of San Antonio. The ranching community only has about 3,500 residents, but the majority of the 2,000 migrants arrested under the new Texas law are being housed in county facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/other-states-second-amendment-sanctuary\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"report-armed-citizens-are-working-at-southern-border-to-assist-law-enforcement\" title=\"Report: Armed Citizens Are Working at Southern Border to Assist Law Enforcement\">Other States Watch Virginia as 2A Sanctuary Movement Grows, Militia Mobilizes<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheriff Coe has also considered working with Christie Hutcherson and her group, Women Fighting for America, according to the <em>Journal<\/em>. This group has made appearances in various border areas, but like Hall\u2019s group, it\u2019s unclear exactly what they\u2019ve accomplished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hutcherson reportedly offered the sheriff the services of her armed volunteers and a high-tech drone, but her price was higher than the Sheriff Department\u2019s annual budget, according to Coe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Groups like the ACLU and the Southern Poverty Law Center have criticized sheriffs like Coe for their willingness to work with private citizens on immigration issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKinney County has not just sought to partner with militias, but also war contractors,\u201d one ACLU spokeswoman told the <em>Journal<\/em>. \u201cThat indicates a level of militarization that is particularly concerning and alarming in the potential for violence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hall told the outlet he has no plans to stop working at the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">***<a
