(<em>Photo: OAN<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) announced this week the introduction of the \u201cStand Your Ground Act of 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per the language of the bill, it would allow one to use deadly force if one reasonably believes it\u2019s \u201cnecessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forcible felonies are generally crimes involving rape, murder, arson, kidnapping, robbery among others. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, the legislation would remove one\u2019s \u201cduty to retreat\u201d so long as the individual was not \u201cengaged in a criminal activity and is in a place where he or she has a right to be.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gaetz referenced the Kyle Rittenhouse case as part of the impetus for the Act.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/know-when-to-stand-your-ground-and-when-you-have-a-duty-to-retreat-part-i-stand-your-ground\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gaetz-introduces-the-stand-your-ground-act-of-2021-to-abolish-duty-to-retreat-everywhere\" title=\"Gaetz Introduces the \u2019Stand Your Ground Act of 2021\u2019 to 'Abolish Duty to Retreat Everywhere'\">Know When to Stand Your Ground and When You Have a Duty to Retreat (Part I \u2013 Stand Your Ground)<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLike Kyle Rittenhouse, every American has the right to defend their life from an attacker,\u201d Congressman Gaetz said in a press release. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf someone tries to kill you, you should have the right to return fire and preserve your life. Let&#8217;s reaffirm in law what exists in our Constitution and in the hearts of our fellow Americans,\u201d he continued.&nbsp; \u201cAbolish the legal duty of retreat everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/know-when-to-stand-your-ground-and-when-you-have-a-duty-to-retreat-part-ii-duty-to-retreat\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gaetz-introduces-the-stand-your-ground-act-of-2021-to-abolish-duty-to-retreat-everywhere\" title=\"Gaetz Introduces the \u2019Stand Your Ground Act of 2021\u2019 to 'Abolish Duty to Retreat Everywhere'\">Know When to Stand Your Ground and When You Have a Duty to Retreat (Part II \u2013 Duty to Retreat)<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 12 states impose a duty to retreat when an individual can do so with complete safety, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duty_to_retreat#:~:text=In%20law%2C%20the%20duty%20to,to%20a%20place%20of%20safety.\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gaetz-introduces-the-stand-your-ground-act-of-2021-to-abolish-duty-to-retreat-everywhere\" title=\"Gaetz Introduces the \u2019Stand Your Ground Act of 2021\u2019 to 'Abolish Duty to Retreat Everywhere'\">Wikipedia<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those states include Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reps.
