Taurus is following up on their latest hit, the GX4 micro-compact pistol for concealed carry, with the GX4 TORO<\/a>, an optics-ready model compatible with a range of popular mini red dot sights. The TORO system, or Taurus Optic Ready Option, includes a factory cut slide and a flush slide cover plate when not in use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TORO mounting system is compatible with Trijicon RMR cc micro red dot sights and other red dots including the Holosun HS507K and HS407K, Riton 3 Tactix MPRD2, Shield RMSc, SIG Sauer Romeo Zero, Sightmark Mini Shot A-Spec M3 and Springfield Armory Hex Wasp, along with any other that shares the same footprint. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taurus includes a set of mounting screws for the cover plate and optics, and ships with either two 10-round magazines or one flush-fitting 11-round magazine and one extended 13-round magazine. Red dot sights can be installed, uninstalled and swapped by the user and do not require a gunsmith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chambered for 9mm Luger, the Taurus GX4 and GX4 TORO are two of the latest micro-compacts to hit the market. Part of a new class of polymer-framed, striker-fired handguns, micro-compacts are only a little larger than single-stack pistols with capacities bordering on subcompact versions of double-stack handguns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a 3-inch barrel, unloaded weight of just over 18 ounces, a width of about an inch, and a height right under 4.5 inches tall, the GX4 falls right in line with other popular micro-compact pistols. Where the pistol stands out is in its price. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suggested retail price for the Taurus GX4 TORO is just $468, which is less than what many of the premium brands charge for their base models without optics cuts. With the GX4 TORO owners can pick up a pistol and an optic for around the same amount as an optics-ready gun without a red dot from other brands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it’s not for any lack of features. The GX4 and GX4 TORO are very modern pistols with a focus on ergonomics and good controls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GX4 has a long upswept beavertail for a high-up grip, combined with a deeply undercut trigger guard. The frame has grip texturing molded in all sides, including the frontstrap and both small and large interchangeable backstraps. Additionally, the frame has two index finger memory pads on both sides of the frame. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pistol has a serrated, flat-faced trigger, a popular option on today’s aftermarket. Safeties include a passive trigger safety, an internal drop safety and a loaded chamber port. The magazine release is reversible and the slide stop lever is recessed to limit snagging. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The barrel and slide have a black nitride finish for wear- and corrosion resistance, and other components have a black Teflon coating for protection and lubricity. Overall it’s a slender and sleek package that’s competitive with other more expensive models on the market today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
