Gun control groups wasted no time this week capitalizing on Tuesday\u2019s massacre at a high school in Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 15-year-old student at Oxford High School used his father\u2019s 9mm handgun to kill four of his schoolmates and wound at least eight others in the early afternoon on Tuesday, November 30. Just hours later, Everytown for Gun Safety, Giffords to Prevent Gun Violence, and Brady: United Against Gun Violence launched a campaign to capitalize on the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur hearts break for yet another community forever scarred by gun violence in our schools,\u201d Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, said in an Everytown email sent at 4:16 PM on November 30. \u201cWe don’t have to keep living this way, and our children and educators most certainly don’t have to keep dying this way. Ending gun violence demands action and we won’t stop fighting for commonsense solutions to protect our communities and keep our kids safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brady president Kris Brown posted a tweet at 4:05 PM soliciting donations in the wake of the murders. At 5:15 PM, Moms Demand Action sent a tweet urging their followers to volunteer for the organization, and at 6:42 PM, Gabrielle Giffords used the tragedy to call for \u201ccommonsense gun safety laws.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 kids were killed and 6 were injured today at Oxford High School in Oakland County, MI.

Police announced late Tuesday night that the murderer had used his father\u2019s gun to kill his schoolmates, but they have not said whether or how the gun was secured. That hasn\u2019t stopped gun control groups like Giffords from using this tragedy to promote their \u201csafe storage\u201d agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s totally unclear how either of these policies would have prevented this tragedy. The boy\u2019s father reportedly purchased the handgun, and there has been no indication that the father was a prohibited person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michigan does not have an \u201cextreme risk law\u201d (A.K.A \u201cred flag law\u201d) on the books, and the killer allegedly posted threats<\/a> and photos of the gun on social media prior to the massacre. But even if Michigan had passed a red flag law, it\u2019s unlikely such posts from the boy would have resulted in the father\u2019s firearms being seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tragedy took place in the space of only five minutes, according to initial reports. The suspect fired at least 12<\/a> shots<\/a>, killing four people and injuring eight others. The authorities have identified the dead as Hana St. Juliana, 14; Madisyn Baldwin, 17; Tate Myre, 16; and Justin Shilling, 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s unclear what kind of security measures the school had in place. Police reportedly apprehended the suspect without incident while he was carrying a loaded gun down a school hallway. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
