In a Sunday interview with CNN\u2019s<\/em> Dana Bash on a show called, \u201cState of the Union,\u201d<\/a> Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O\u2019Rourke made it clear that he still supports confiscating modern sporting rifles from law-abiding citizens.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook, we are a state that has a long, proud tradition of responsible gun ownership. And most of us here in Texas do not want to see our friends, our family members, our neighbors shot up with these weapons of war. So, yes, I still hold this view,\u201d O\u2019Rourke told Bash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As GunsAmerica previously reported<\/a>, O\u2019Rourke made headlines in 2019 <\/a>at a Democratic presidential primary debate when he emphatically declared that his administration would disarm America. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHell yes, we\u2019re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,\u201d exclaimed O\u2019Rourke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with seizing firearms from responsible gun owners, O\u2019Rourke hopes that as governor he can roll back the state\u2019s new constitutional carry law<\/a> that current Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed back in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t want extremism in our gun laws. We want to protect the Second Amendment. We want to protect the lives of our fellow Texans. And I know that when we come together and stop this divisive extremism that we see from Greg Abbott right now, we’re going to be able to do that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notion that constiutional carry laws are “extreme” or part of a fringe phenomenon is deeply flawed. As many as 20 states (those in green) have passed similar laws over the years, per wikipedia<\/a>. Additionally, Pennsylvania<\/a> and Ohio<\/a> are now considering permitless carry legislation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is extreme, however, is Beto’s unflinching belief that one’s right to keep and bear arms is subject to ceaseless infringement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beto trails Gov. Abbott by nine percentage points according to the latest Texas Tribune\/University of Texas poll<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
