Brian Simonsen dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the 29-year-old \u201cappeared more concerned with his comedy career than his criminal case\u201d during a 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/nyc-crime\/ny-alleged-robber-who-sparked-detectives-death-speaks-20190405-uudiqttgincxtc5zx537ufz7nq-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-york-comedian-wielding-a-fake-gun-gets-33-years-for-friendly-fire-death-of-nypd-detective\" title=\"New York 'Comedian' Wielding a Fake Gun Gets 33 Years for Friendly Fire Death of NYPD Detective\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a> with the Daily News, he struck a much different tone during his sentencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I am the author of the chain of events that led to the death of Detective Simonsen and for that I am deeply sorry,&#8221; Ransom said on Wednesday. &#8220;I would like forgiveness but I would not dare ask of it, I would not put that burden on the late detective&#8217;s loved ones.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ransom, a self-described \u201cshock-value comic\u201d and \u201centertainer,\u201d told police he never meant to rob a T-Mobile store with a fake Colt handgun on Feb. 12, 2019. So, when he started running towards them, they opened fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seven officers <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/nypd-determine-fired-fatal-shot-detectives-friendly-fire\/story?id=61352029\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-york-comedian-wielding-a-fake-gun-gets-33-years-for-friendly-fire-death-of-nypd-detective\" title=\"New York 'Comedian' Wielding a Fake Gun Gets 33 Years for Friendly Fire Death of NYPD Detective\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fired a total of 42 shots<\/a> during the incident and struck Ransom eight times. He survived, but Simonsen was struck fatally in the chest, and the detective\u2019s partner, Sgt. Matthew Gorman, was wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigators said in the weeks after the incident that they were not able to determine who fired the bullet that killed Simonsen. \u201cThe ballistics examination was inconclusive,\u201d an NYPD spokesman told <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/nypd-determine-fired-fatal-shot-detectives-friendly-fire\/story?id=61352029\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-york-comedian-wielding-a-fake-gun-gets-33-years-for-friendly-fire-death-of-nypd-detective\" title=\"New York 'Comedian' Wielding a Fake Gun Gets 33 Years for Friendly Fire Death of NYPD Detective\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABC News<\/a>, and body camera and surveillance footage revealed multiple officers who were in position to have fired the shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ransom managed to plea down his murder charge, but prosecutors pointed out that his \u201cpranks\u201d were all too real. Earlier this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/youtuber-shot-killed-fake-robbery\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-york-comedian-wielding-a-fake-gun-gets-33-years-for-friendly-fire-death-of-nypd-detective\" title=\"New York 'Comedian' Wielding a Fake Gun Gets 33 Years for Friendly Fire Death of NYPD Detective\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a would-be YouTube star<\/a> was shot and killed in Nashville after he approached a man carrying a concealed handgun in what police described as a \u201crobbery prank\u201d gone wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge told Ransom he got the audience he was after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNone of them are here to cheer you on, they&#8217;re here to watch you be removed from society until the point where you only exist in the far end of their memories,\u201d said Judge Kenneth Holder at the sentencing hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_jgAS6_GJYw\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
