Springfield Armory is expanding their popular line of XD-S Mod.2 OSP polymer-framed, striker-fired single-stack pistols for everyday carry with more optics-ready models. The original Mod.2 OSP is a 9mm Luger with a 3.3-inch barrel and Springfield is adding a long-slide 4-inch model in 9mm<\/a> and now a 3.3-inch model in .45 ACP<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both are offered with and without optics. This leaves the option up to the buyer, or makes things easy with a factory-installed Crimson Trace CTS-1550 micro red dot sight. The CTS-1550 has a suggested retail price of $179, but bundled with an XD-S Mod.2 it only adds $100, which is a solid value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CTS-1550 is a very compact red dot sight, which mounted on the XD-S, still allows for a low co-witness with standard-height sights on the pistol. This makes these guns less likely to snag on the draw and makes them compatible with a wider range of holsters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pistols all come with a single white dot front sight with a serrated rear combat sight. They also have standard accessory rails, not a proprietary design, for lights and other accessories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XD-S Mod.2 is a popular design in part because of its good ergonomics. Felt recoil can be an issue with a lot of slim and compact handguns, especially in .45 ACP, but the XD-S makes it easy to get on target and shoot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the improved Mod.2 ergonomics, the frames have ambidextrous magazine release levers and an extended grip safety. The flush-fitting magazines have slight finger extensions for more control. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These pistols have all of the other features that have made the XD-S Mod.2 so successful, including the hammer-forged steel barrel and forged steel slide, with loaded chamber ports, a durable Melonite finish and a dual captive guide rod recoil assembly that makes these reliable and soft-shooting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both models have an unloaded weight of about 23 ounces, a little less in 9mm, and a little more with the extended magazines. They’re slim at less than an inch wide and short at 4.5 inches tall with the flush magazine, and 5 inches tall with the extended mag. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new 4-inch 9mm XD-S Mod.2 OSP and the .45 ACP ship with one flush and one extended magazine. The .45 holds 5+1 with the flush magazine and the extended mag holds another 6 rounds. In 9mm the capacity goes up to 7+1 with the flush mag and 9+1 with the extended mag. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
