(Photo: Gage Skidmore)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The California legislature passed a bill this year requiring people subject to \u201cred flag\u201d orders to surrender \u201cfirearm precursor parts\u201d along with their functioning firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB1057\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-adds-unfinished-frames-or-receivers-to-list-of-items-confiscated-after-red-flag-order\" title=\"California Adds 'Unfinished Frames or Receivers' to List of Items Confiscated After Red Flag Order\">AB 1057<\/a>, is part of a larger effort within the gun ban movement to marginalize and vilify those who build their own firearms at home. According to this section of the Penal Code, a \u201cprecursor part\u201d is an \u201cunfinished receiver\u201d of a semi-automatic rifle or an \u201cunfinished handgun frame.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The law does not explain at what point a product reaches a state of manufacture to be considered an \u201cunfinished frame.\u201d As others <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/3d-printer-proves-ridiculousness-of-atfs-new-definition-of-firearm-converts-nerf-gun-into-22lr\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-adds-unfinished-frames-or-receivers-to-list-of-items-confiscated-after-red-flag-order\" title=\"California Adds 'Unfinished Frames or Receivers' to List of Items Confiscated After Red Flag Order\">have noted<\/a>, virtually anything could be considered an \u201cunfinished frame or receiver\u201d given the advancement of 3D printing technology. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>California\u2019s red flag law is among the most draconian in the nation. It allows not only law enforcement and family to request a confiscation order but also co-workers, educators, and employers.
