{"id":152560,"date":"2021-10-07T12:05:17","date_gmt":"2021-10-07T16:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=152560"},"modified":"2021-10-07T12:05:17","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T19:55:12","slug":"indiana-woman-fatally-shoots-intruder-pretending-to-be-a-cop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/indiana-woman-fatally-shoots-intruder-pretending-to-be-a-cop\/","title":{"rendered":"Indiana Woman Fatally Shoots Intruder Pretending to Be A Cop\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An alleged robber died from a gunshot wound last week after forcing his way into the home of a responsibly armed woman.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police told local media that the suspect, who has been identified as 40-year-old Jeffery Flowers, was pretending to be a cop at the time of the invasion. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNeighbors had videos of him parking in front of the residence and looking through windows, ultimately breaking through the door and pulling a weapon out,\u201d Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings told <a href=\"https:\/\/fox59.com\/news\/police-homeowner-shoots-kills-1-after-home-invasion-in-anderson\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"indiana-woman-fatally-shoots-intruder-pretending-to-be-a-cop\" title=\"Indiana Woman Fatally Shoots Intruder Pretending to Be A Cop\u00a0\">Fox59<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere was audio, and you could hear what he was saying inside. He said, \u2018It\u2019s the police.\u2019 He was claiming to be police officer, but he had a mask on,\u201d Cummings added. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victim, who has not been identified, did not fall for that trick.\u00a0 She retrieved a firearm, shot Flowers, then exited the residence to phone the police from a neighbor\u2019s house. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cummings indicated that he was not surprised by the outcome.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn your home is probably the most protected place you can be,\u201d explained Cummings. \u201cIf you\u2019re breaking into someone\u2019s home in the middle of the night, if you don\u2019t get shot or killed you should feel fortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/lawmakers-introduce-bill-to-force-gun-shops-to-expand-security-measures\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"indiana-woman-fatally-shoots-intruder-pretending-to-be-a-cop\" title=\"Indiana Woman Fatally Shoots Intruder Pretending to Be A Cop\u00a0\">Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Force Gun Shops to Expand Security Measures\u00a0<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While an investigation is ongoing, local attorney Mario Massillamany does not believe any charges will be filed because of Indiana\u2019s robust self-defense laws. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInside a person\u2019s house they can use deadly force, and that\u2019s called the castle doctrine,\u201d said Massillamany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe castle doctrine in Indiana is a pretty strong law.
