Springfield Armory is expanding its XD-M Elite series with a hard-hitter for everyday carry with the new Elite 3.8 Compact OSP chambered for 10mm Auto<\/a>. Like other pistols in the Elite family, the new 3.8 Compact OSP 10mm features match-grade parts and other upgrades that make them premium pistols for self-defense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Springfield is releasing the 3.8 Compact OSP 10mm in two packages, a base-model optics-ready kit or with an installed HEX Dragonfly red dot optic<\/a>. Both have an 11+1-round capacity with flush-fitting magazines or 15+1 with full-size mags with a grip sleeve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The new XD-M Elite 3.8 Compact OSP 10mm stands apart in the concealed-carry weapons world with its combination of impressive power, compact size and optics-mounting capability,” said Springfield Armory Vice President Steve Kramer. “Additionally, with its 11+1 capacity and the ability to accept full-size 15-round magazines available as an accessory, this is an outstanding choice for EDC and self-defense use.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XD-M Elite Compacts are slightly larger than their standard XD and XD-M counterparts. While they are still polymer-framed, striker-fired double-stack handguns, the Elite 3.8 Compact models have detachable enlarged, extended magwells that not only give a little bump in capacity, they also add a little extra in terms of grip length. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That means the Elite 3.8 Compact OSP falls right between most midsize pistols and subcompacts, which makes it a great size for everyday and concealed carry. With a 3.8-inch barrel and 12 rounds of 10mm Auto, Springfield’s newest Compact fits a lot into a tidy package. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other XD-M Elite features carry over with the new 10mm. It has fully ambidextrous controls, including dual magazine release levers and both left- and right-handed slide stops, the improved META semi-flat-faced serrated trigger and extended grip safety with a memory button. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These pistols have cold-hammer-forged barrels and forged steel slides with a tough Melonite finish. Both kits are offered in all-black for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The standard pistol weighs in at 27 ounces unloaded, ships with two 11-round magazines, comes standard with a red fiber optic front sight and U-notch rear sight and a slide blanking plate for the base model. The HEX Dragonfly package weighs a little more at just over 28 ounces unloaded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HEX Dragonfly mini optic has a 3.5-moa red dot and has a 6061-T6 housing. It has a manual brightness adjustment and a 16-hour auto-off feature to conserve power. On average brightness, it has about a three-year battery life on a single CR2032 cell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are also very competitively priced, especially given that 10mm pistols are still pretty uncommon, despite the resurgence in popularity. The base kit has a suggested price of $633, while the Dragonfly package runs $818. The bundle saves around $60 given that a Dragonfly red dot lists for $249 by itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
