{"id":152263,"date":"2021-09-29T10:55:53","date_gmt":"2021-09-29T14:55:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=152263"},"modified":"2021-09-29T10:55:53","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T19:40:02","slug":"ussocom-unveils-its-diversity-and-inclusion-plan-for-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ussocom-unveils-its-diversity-and-inclusion-plan-for-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"USSOCOM Unveils Its \u2018Diversity and Inclusion&#8217; Plan for 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the goal of any team is to win, it would seem that the team should strive to recruit the best players available.&nbsp; Period. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who cares how the players \u201cidentify\u201d or what intersectional \u201cvictim class\u201d they belong to.&nbsp; Just create what Dr. Jordan Peterson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jnOUFS3lUpE\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ussocom-unveils-its-diversity-and-inclusion-plan-for-2021\" title=\"USSOCOM Unveils Its \u2018Diversity and Inclusion' Plan for 2021\">calls a \u201chierarchy of competence,<\/a>\u201d basically, an open and competitive training environment, and let the cream rise to the top.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professional sports largely operate this way.&nbsp; It\u2019s arguably why they\u2019re such a popular form of entertainment that brings in billions of dollars each year.&nbsp; Fans tune in to see the best compete against the best. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of the NBA, it just so happens that Blacks are disproportionately represented.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Race_and_ethnicity_in_the_NBA#:~:text=According%20to%20racial%20equality%20activist,classified%20as%20%22other%22%20races.\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ussocom-unveils-its-diversity-and-inclusion-plan-for-2021\" title=\"USSOCOM Unveils Its \u2018Diversity and Inclusion' Plan for 2021\">Roughly 74 percent<\/a> of the NBA is African American, even though they only make up 13 percent of the U.S. population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is this a shocking example of systemic racism against Whites, Asians, American Indians, Pacific Islanders, etc.?&nbsp; Or is it just that young, tall, extremely well-conditioned African American men tend to be the best basketball players on the planet? &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe there are some socio-cultural barriers that keep other races and ethnicities from succeeding in The Association, and if that\u2019s the case those should be identified and eliminated to level the playing field so that equality of <em>opportunity<\/em> is maximized, but for the most part, I think we all accept the fact that the NBA has a rigorous selection process that does a fair job of separating the wheat from the chaff. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/beretta-announcing-two-new-optics-ready-92x-pistols-following-m9a4\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ussocom-unveils-its-diversity-and-inclusion-plan-for-2021\" title=\"USSOCOM Unveils Its \u2018Diversity and Inclusion' Plan for 2021\">Beretta Announcing Two New Optics-Ready 92X Pistols Following M9A4<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, no one is caterwauling for \u201cequality of outcome\u201d or \u201cequity\u201d when it comes to the NBA.&nbsp; No one is saying, for example, the NBA is deficient in 5\u20195\u201d, portly, middle-aged, Italian-American plumbers. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reason for this is obvious.&nbsp; Fans want their teams to win a championship.&nbsp; Imposing an equity-based model that puts Mario at point guard isn\u2019t going to be a recipe for team success.&nbsp; Quite the opposite, it\u2019s going to be an abject disaster!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure, one can argue that the league would be \u201cmore diverse\u201d if there were more Marios and Luigis running down the court, but it wouldn\u2019t be nearly as compelling.&nbsp; The quality of the play would dramatically decrease and viewership along with it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The question then is why is our military, specifically USSOCOM, bending over backward to impose an equity-based model on its personnel?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provided that there is equality of <em>opportunity<\/em>, shouldn&#8217;t the core concern be one of competency, not identity?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put another way, if we don&#8217;t care about the lack of diversity in professional sports, why should we obsess over the reported lack of diversity in SOCOM?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even more fundamentally, how do we know for sure that the diversity deficiency in the military is a product of things like &#8220;systemic racism&#8221; and &#8220;institutional bias&#8221; and &#8220;the cisgender patriarchy&#8221; and not individual preferences and choices?
