The Associated Press is reporting<\/a> that president Joe Biden is going to pull the nomination of David Chipman for Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chipman was picked specifically because he is a dogged advocate for tougher gun laws. Chipman, a former ATF agent, currently serves as the senior policy advisor for the anti-gun organization Giffords<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from maybe Shannon Watts and Michael Bloomberg, the Biden Administration couldn\u2019t have selected a more anti-gun prospect for the position. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Letting Chipman run the ATF would be putting the proverbial fox in charge of the hen house.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Details as to why the Biden administration is now nixing his nomination have yet to come to light. But to say that Chipman was a flawed candidate would be an understatement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from fierce resistance from pro-gun GOP lawmakers, Chipman insulted<\/a> gun owners, refused to define the term “assault weapons during a Senate committee hearing,”<\/a> allegedly said racist remarks about coworkers<\/a>, and may have even lost his duty gun while working for the agency<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alan Gottlieb, the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, celebrated the news, crediting gun owners for getting involved to stop Chipman’s ascent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to thank every gun owner and concerned voter who contacted their Senators and helped us stop this dangerous nominee from being confirmed,” said Gottlieb in an email to GunsAmerica. This is a great grassroots victory for the Second Amendment. Gun rights lobby: 1, Biden gun ban lobby: 0!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other side of the gun divide, Ms. Watts was clearly disappointed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gun lobby and its allies will celebrate this decades-long refusal by some Senators to enforce gun laws, but President Biden is committed to gun safety, and nothing can stop our movement. Lives depend on it.
