(Photo: Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Anti-hunting activists in Oregon and Florida are hoping to implement their radical agenda via the ballot initiative process rather than through their state legislatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Oregon, an animal rights group is working to get a measure on next year\u2019s ballot that would effectively ban all hunting and fishing. In Florida, activists are hoping to get a constitutional amendment on the ballot that would ban the hunting of certain \u201ciconic species\u201d and totally outlaw game preserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf passed, IP 13 would immediately impact Oregon\u2019s 940,000 sportsmen and women who participate in the outdoors in support of conservation efforts, food procurement, and tradition,\u201d the Congressional Sportsmen\u2019s Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/congressionalsportsmen.org\/the-media-room\/news\/animal-rights-activists-seek-end-to-hunting-and-fishing-in-oregon-csf-respo\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ballot-initiatives-in-oregon-and-florida-would-ban-hunting-fishing-game-preserves\" title=\"Ballot Initiatives in Oregon and Florida Would Ban Hunting, Fishing, Game Preserves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">says<\/a> of the Oregon initiative. \u201cFor generations, Oregonians from across the state have relied on Oregon\u2019s rich natural bounty to provide fresh meat and fish for their families. The proposed initiative would also significantly impact the state\u2019s ability to manage and protect its natural resources, wildlife, and public lands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oregon\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/oregonvotes.org\/irr\/2022\/013text.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ballot-initiatives-in-oregon-and-florida-would-ban-hunting-fishing-game-preserves\" title=\"Ballot Initiatives in Oregon and Florida Would Ban Hunting, Fishing, Game Preserves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Initiative Petition 13<\/a> would remove all protections for anyone who intentionally harms or kills an animal. Under current law, hunting, angling, livestock raising, and other legal activities are protected (within reason) from the state\u2019s animal cruelty laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-kansas-buck-deemed-second-largest-nontypical-in-bowhunting-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ballot-initiatives-in-oregon-and-florida-would-ban-hunting-fishing-game-preserves\" title=\"Ballot Initiatives in Oregon and Florida Would Ban Hunting, Fishing, Game Preserves\">Kansas Buck Officially Deemed Second Largest Nontypical in Bowhunting History<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>IP 13 would remove those protections. Anyone caught killing an animal, even for the purpose of meat procurement, would be subject to felony charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative also effectively outlaws livestock breeding by defining such activities as animal sexual abuse. Anyone caught touching an animal\u2019s sex organs for any reason other than \u201cgood veterinary practices\u201d would be subject to a felony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group pushing for IP 13, \u201cEnd Animal Cruelty,\u201d only needs just over 122,000 signatures by July to get the petition on next year\u2019s ballot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Florida, activists are hoping to get five constitutional amendments on the ballot, all of which are supposedly designed to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fl5.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ballot-initiatives-in-oregon-and-florida-would-ban-hunting-fishing-game-preserves\" title=\"Ballot Initiatives in Oregon and Florida Would Ban Hunting, Fishing, Game Preserves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">keep Florida alive<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One would outlaw hunting \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fl5.org\/florida-iconic-species\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ballot-initiatives-in-oregon-and-florida-would-ban-hunting-fishing-game-preserves\" title=\"Ballot Initiatives in Oregon and Florida Would Ban Hunting, Fishing, Game Preserves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Florida Iconic Species<\/a>,\u201d including Florida Black Bear, Florida Panther, Manatees, and Key Deer. Most of the animals on the list are already protected under federal or state law, but the measure also allows anyone to petition the state to add additional animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-wisconsin-committed-2021-wolf-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ballot-initiatives-in-oregon-and-florida-would-ban-hunting-fishing-game-preserves\" title=\"Ballot Initiatives in Oregon and Florida Would Ban Hunting, Fishing, Game Preserves\">Wisconsin Committed to 2021 Wolf Hunt<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>New Florida Iconic Species must either be native to Florida, identified as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act, or be \u201csymbolic of the state.\u201d The measure does not define what it means by \u201csymbolic,\u201d nor does it list criteria for the petition to be granted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Animals only have to meet one of the measure&#8217;s three criteria to be considered for the \u201cIconic Species\u201d list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another initiative characterizes game preserves as \u201ccaptive wildlife hunting\u201d and summarily bans all facilities that engage in the business. Proponents argue that such preserves pose a threat to native species and risk disease transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Congressional Sportsmen\u2019s Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/congressionalsportsmen.org\/the-media-room\/news\/ballot-initiatives-pose-threat-to-wildlife-conservation-in-florida\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ballot-initiatives-in-oregon-and-florida-would-ban-hunting-fishing-game-preserves\" title=\"Ballot Initiatives in Oregon and Florida Would Ban Hunting, Fishing, Game Preserves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">points out<\/a> that this initiative would threaten the state\u2019s hunting traditions and undermine the Florida Wildlife Commission\u2019s authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activists need 900,000 signatures by November 30 of this year to add these measures to the ballot in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center
