<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the NRA Annual Meetings about a month away<\/a>, there\u2019s some rather shocking news making its way around the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ted Nugent is resigning from the NRA board of directors after 26 years.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cScheduling conflicts.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hmmm.  Bizarre, right?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nuge is arguably the most famous member of the organization not named \u201cWayne LaPierre.\u201d  He literally wrote a song called, \u201cI am the NRA.<\/a>\u201d  Why would he exit now, when we\u2019re all getting set to rally down in Houston next month, Sept. 3-5<\/a>, for the first time in well over a year?  (NRAAM 2020 in Nashville was canceled due to COVID.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement on Facebook addressed to \u201cFellow NRA Board of Directors, Members, Friends and Second Amendment Warriors,\u201d the motor city madman elaborated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe time has come for me to face the dangers of burning the candle at both ends.  I have been honored and humbled to represent all those great Americans that voted for me to serve on the NRA BOD for the last 26 years, and will not only continue my calling to fight for the return of the Second Amendment, but to actually increase my exposing and crushing those evil forces who would deny such basic freedoms to Americans,\u201d he wrote.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was not voted onto the board as an accountant, administrator, paper shuffler or bureaucrat, but rather to lead the charge of the good guys against the bad guys in this vile culture war that has reached a deafening roar,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last part of the statement may be telling.  As Nugent may be vaguely referencing the NRA\u2019s recent bankruptcy and restructuring efforts<\/a> that have caused some members, gun owners and 2A supporters to publicly question<\/a> the gun lobby\u2019s leadership.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe by stepping down Nugent is trying to distance himself from any of the rancor that might be directed at the BOD.  Or maybe, as he said, he is just stretched too thin between personal & professional obligations and his duties as a board member.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whatever the reason, many will be sad to see him go. Because whether one loves or hates his “rock ‘n’ roll” style activism, no one can argue it hasn’t raised the profile of the NRA.<\/a> And if it’s true that all publicity is good publicity, then having someone like Uncle Ted in your ranks is invaluable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI salute you and thank you for your never ending dedication to fight for our right to keep and bear arms, and though not sitting on the board with you, I will indeed be in the heat of battle on the not so main streets of America every damn day, as always,\u201d said Nugent.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo due to constant scheduling conflicts, I hereby resign my position on the NRA Board of Directors, wishing you well and Godspeed,\u201d he concluded.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
