California Congressman Raul Ruiz introduced this week H.R. 4722, the \u201cVote Without Fear Act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed to \u201cprevent armed intimidation at the voting booth\u201d the legislation bans the possession of a firearm within 100 yards of a \u201cfederal election site.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A federal election site includes both polling places and ballot counting locations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn recent federal elections, we have seen an alarming rise in armed intimidation at the voting booth,\u201d said Rep. Ruiz in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery American should be able to exercise their fundamental right to vote without intimidation or fear for their personal safety. My bill, the Vote Without Fear Act, will help protect this sacred right by keeping our polling places free from the threat of armed intimidation. With my legislation, we will safeguard the integrity of our democratic process and ensure the safety of all Americans on Election Day.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On-duty law enforcement officers and hired security guards are exempt from the ban. Lawfully owned firearms secured in homes and\/or vehicles within 100 yards of the federal election site are also exempt.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe ability to vote freely and without fear must be protected, but unfortunately gun extremists are increasingly trying to threaten our democratic process by intimidating voters and election workers,\u201d said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCongressmen Ruiz’s legislation is one that will ensure safety and security at our poll sites and one that we’re proud to support,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of voting, incidentally, Arizona is currently in the midst of an audit of the 2020 General Election for ballots cast in Maricopa County.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
