<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot will not take responsibility for the rash of violence plaguing the Windy City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, she\u2019s playing the blame game once again<\/a>, pointing her finger directly at the federal government.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a national problem,\u201d Lightfoot said<\/a> in response to a recent mass killing that left four residents dead and another four injured.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat we will likely learn as the details become clearer is that illegal guns continue to plague us. Gun violence continues to have a deep and painful history in our city,\u201d Lightfoot continued. \u201cUnfortunately, Chicago is not unique. We are part of a club of cities for which no one wants to belong, cities with mass shootings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at homicide data since 2013, this year is on pace to be a record year with 294 killings through June 12, 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCities individually cannot tackle this problem. We just cannot. In Chicago, we\u2019ve done absolutely everything possible, and we need help from the federal government,\u201d Lightfoot said. \u201cWhen guns are so porous that they can come across our borders as we see every single day in Chicago, we know that we have to have a multi-jurisdictional, national solution to this horrible plague of gun violence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notion that city leaders have done \u201ceverything possible\u201d is laughable, as Fox News\u2019 Tucker Carlson pointed out in a recent video<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLightfoot banned the police from chasing criminals, even in the case of some very serious offensives. And her D.A. refuses to prosecute many crimes,\u201d explained Carlson on the city\u2019s change in policing following the death of George Floyd.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe results? Nearly 200 more people have been murdered this year than last [2020 vs. 2019 homicide numbers]. Many more dead people, hundreds. Yesterday, there was yet another mass killing in Chicago,\u201d he continued.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turns out, when a city uses kid gloves when dealing with violent offenders, bad things happen.  As Tucker pointed out: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third mass shooting in just over a week, each one of them was a far greater human tragedy than anything that happened at the Capitol on January 6. But as the bodies in Chicago accumulate, the people who run the city barely notice. In fact, they make it possible. Four days before Christmas, a 28-year-old named Marvin Flanagan murdered a man during a home invasion. Flanagan should have been in jail at the time. He was a five-time felon with convictions for armed robbery. But officials let him out, and he promptly committed murder. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This now common in the city of Chicago. Marvin Flanagan is just one of the dozens of criminals who\u2019ve been let out of jail in Chicago recently, only to go on to shoot or murder someone else. Lori Lightfoot did this. But she accepts no responsibility for doing. Instead, she blames firearms, and demands more money from the federal government.  <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Is Tucker right? Is Lightfoot’s approach to crime, giving hardened criminals a slap on the wrist and releasing them back out onto the streets, which is tantamount to pouring gasoline on an open fire, a money play? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given that the Harris-Biden Administration has earmarked $200 million for a “New Community Violence Intervention Program<\/a>” in its Fiscal Year 2022 budget, it just might be. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All that pork is up for grabs and Lightfoot, it would seem, wants to ensure Chicago can make a compelling case that it needs that money as much, if not more, than any other city in the country. Doesn’t matter how many poor black and brown people have to be sacrificed in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s a really cynical assessment of Mayor Lightfoot, but given her milquetoast treatment of violent offenders, it’s hard to conclude otherwise. Well, It’s either that, or she’s a complete moron. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
