Smith & Wesson is working on a new limited edition run of M&P pistols, The Spec Series<\/a>. The Spec Series Kits include an optics-ready two-tone M&P pistol bundled with a Crimson Trace optic, M&P fixed blade knife, and a challenge coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initial Spec Series Kit will be a M&P2.0 OR Full-Size pistol chambered for 9mm Luger. Like other full-size M&P pistols it has a 17+1-round capacity and comes with a 4.6-inch threaded barrel. It has a black frame and a flat dark earth slide with black accents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The M&P Spec Series is a limited edition offering with an exclusive pistol that features the best enhancements our M&P line has to offer \u2013 an optics-ready slide, threaded barrel, two-tone color combination, and more,” said Smith & Wesson’s Vince Perreault. “As an added bonus, the M&P Spec Series Kit includes an M&P fixed blade knife and a custom challenge coin that\u2019s sure to excite enthusiasts.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The included mini red dot sight is a CTS-1500, which has a 3.5-MOA auto-dimming dot with about a 20,000-hour battery life. The pistol also comes with suppressor-height 3-dot night sights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every Spec Kit comes with a color-matching two-tone M&P Full Tang boot knife, with a 4.5-inch blade and a 9-inch overall length. It has a polymer handle and a black nitride finish and comes with a molded nylon sheath. The challenge coin has the Spec pistol on one side and the M&P Shield badge on the other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Including an optic with the Spec is an interesting decision, since many shooters have an individual preference when it comes to optics. But it’s still nice to see a complete package that’s ready for the range right out of the box, without adding a lot to the final price point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As far as pricing goes the Spec runs a bit higher than some semi-custom and higher-specced M&P2.0 pistols, but not by much. With all the upgrades and a custom fit hard case, the Spec Series Kit is $917, and may be found for less online and in stores. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Smith & Wesson has only announced one version of the Spec Series, the name implies that there’s more in the works. Being that the initial Spec is suppressor-ready, a lot of people are going to want to see it in .45 ACP, as well as in mid-size and compact versions for everyday and concealed-carry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
