SIG Sauer is following up on their recent P320 AXG Scorpion<\/a> with two new models, the AXG Classic<\/a> and the AXG Pro<\/a>. Like the Scorpion, these 9mm Luger pistols feature Alloy X-Series Grips that use traditional grip panels in place of the original polymer frames used for the majority of the P320 family of striker-fired handguns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AXG Classic is a handsome and straightforward design with a few updated touches that will appeal to original P-Series owners, while the AXG Pro is an Avant-garde take with all of the trappings of a 21st-century defensive handgun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pro combines the X-Carry size grip with a full-length barrel and slide assembly. The Pro-Cut slide sports large lightening cuts with big ports toward the muzzle and half-height cuts above the slide serrations front and rear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The half-height slide serrations aren’t going to greatly reduce the rackability of the slide as it’s also cut for a mini red dot optic. Like most premium SIG pistols the AXG Pro comes with tritium day and night sights, standard. It also comes with a flat-faced trigger, black diamond-cut machined G10 grips, and a detachable magwell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The magwell is fairly modest, big enough to make for faster, easier reloads but not so big to make the pistol awkward to carry. The magwell is compatible with extended magazines and the pistol ships with two modified 17-round Henning Group magazines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a little surprising that the Pro doesn’t come with suppressor sights or an extended, threaded barrel, but those are a personal preference for most shooters and easy upgrades for those who want and need them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AXG Classic also comes with standard-height day and night sights and a standard, compact barrel and slide assembly, both of which are right at home on this modern yet traditionally styled handgun. The Classic is basically a toned-down version of the AXG Scorpion, designed for everyday carry, home defense, and the range. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By going with a more restrained design the Classic really does live up to its name. This pistol has a timelessness to it and a style that fits in with the original P-Series SIGs like the P220 and P229. The all-black finish combined with the custom walnut Grips by Hogue and traditional curved trigger all contribute to its clean looks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That being said the pistol is optics-ready, with a slide cut for red dot sights as well, and also brings capacity with its three standard 17-round mags. Both pistols are a little heavier than their polymer-framed rivals, at around 35 ounces for the Pro and 31 ounces for the Classic, but that no doubt contributes to less felt recoil, and frankly people will want them for the added weight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As far as pricing is concerned, these are going to run a bit more than P320s with polymer grips, which is understandable. Pricing for these start at around $1,000, but in today’s current climate, that can vary by a lot. For anyone interested in picking up one of these new AXG pistols, they better be prepared to act fast, as they will sell out fast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
