{"id":145877,"date":"2021-05-26T10:04:48","date_gmt":"2021-05-26T14:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=145877"},"modified":"2021-05-26T10:04:48","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T12:25:28","slug":"gun-rights-groups-celebrate-passage-of-constitutional-carry-in-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/gun-rights-groups-celebrate-passage-of-constitutional-carry-in-texas\/","title":{"rendered":"Gun-Rights Groups Celebrate Passage of Constitutional Carry in Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gun-rights groups are celebrating the passage of Constitutional carry in the Lone Star State. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Firearm Carry Act of 2021, or as it\u2019s also known <a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/BillLookup\/History.aspx?LegSess=87R&amp;Bill=HB1927\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-rights-groups-celebrate-passage-of-constitutional-carry-in-texas\" title=\"Gun-Rights Groups Celebrate Passage of Constitutional Carry in Texas\">HB 1927<\/a>, cleared both chambers of the Texas Legislature and will now head to the desk of Gov. Greg Abbott. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Abbott has indicated that he will sign the bill into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ll be signing it,&#8221; he said in a radio interview on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbap.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-rights-groups-celebrate-passage-of-constitutional-carry-in-texas\" title=\"Gun-Rights Groups Celebrate Passage of Constitutional Carry in Texas\">WBAP<\/a> last month. &#8220;I support it and I believe it should reach my desk and we should have &#8216;constitutional carry&#8217; in Texas.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once signed, the bill will take effect on Sept. 1st of this year.&nbsp; No longer will Texans 21 years or older need to obtain a permit (which involves paying a fee, being fingerprinted, passing a background check, qualifying at the range, and taking a safety course) to carry a handgun.&nbsp; A big win for 2A purists. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI invite all Texans to join with me in celebrating the passage of HB 1927, which repeals the general state ban on handgun carry enacted in 1871. The Legislature\u2019s passage of this bill represents Texas\u2019 strongest stand to protect the right to keep and bear arms since the siege of the Alamo,\u201d said Gun Owners of America (GOA) Texas Director Rachel Malone in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is far past time for the state of Texas to recognize the right of law-abiding Texans to protect themselves and their families \u2013 without having to ask for permission,\u201d she added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HB 1927 does not eliminate the state\u2019s \u201cLicenses to Carry\u201d permitting system.&nbsp; It will still exist for residents who want to obtain one for carry reciprocity in other states.&nbsp; Texas has reciprocity agreements with at least 37 states, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usconcealedcarry.com\/resources\/ccw_reciprocity_map\/tx-gun-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-rights-groups-celebrate-passage-of-constitutional-carry-in-texas\" title=\"Gun-Rights Groups Celebrate Passage of Constitutional Carry in Texas\">USCCA<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A right requiring you to pay a tax or obtain a government permission slip is not a right at all, that\u2019s why the NRA is proud to have worked closely with state leaders and legislators to pass the most significant pro-Second Amendment measure in Texas history,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nraila.org\/articles\/20210524\/nra-backed-constitutional-carry-bill-passes-in-texas\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-rights-groups-celebrate-passage-of-constitutional-carry-in-texas\" title=\"Gun-Rights Groups Celebrate Passage of Constitutional Carry in Texas\">said<\/a> NRA-ILA Executive Director Jason Ouimet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hogg-on-spike-in-gun-sales-i-think-its-about-fear\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-rights-groups-celebrate-passage-of-constitutional-carry-in-texas\" title=\"Gun-Rights Groups Celebrate Passage of Constitutional Carry in Texas\">Hogg on Spike in Gun Sales: \u2018I think it\u2019s about fear\u2019<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our members worked tirelessly to provide the crucial grassroots support to make constitutional carry a reality and restore the rights of law-abiding Texans,\u201d continued Ouimet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those unfamiliar with Constitutional carry, it\u2019s important to note that it does NOT change existing federal law that bans prohibited persons (felons, minors, illegals, drug addicts, etc.) from possessing or carrying firearms. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Texas joins a growing list of states that have recognized one\u2019s right to keep and bear arms as the founders and framers intended. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those other Constitutional Carry states include Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-f44352f3-0425-42c3-ba67-55f888ccdfdf\">***<a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/\" campaign=\"BuySellGA_Register\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\">Buy and Sell on GunsAmerica!<\/a>***<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Firearm Carry Act of 2021, or as it\u2019s also known HB 1927, cleared both chambers of the Texas Legislature and will now head to the desk of Gov.
