After more than a year in the works, Magpul fans can finally lay their hands on the hottest, most anticipated pistol stabilizing braces, the BSL and BTR<\/a>. How long they’ll be able to use them, however, may not be very long if the Biden administration and the ATF come up with a scheme to regulate pistol braces<\/a> as a whole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BSL and BTR are flat blade-style braces with the same profile as Magpul’s CTR and MOE-SL stocks<\/a>, and look less out of place than a lot of other braces. They’re pretty simple with a lever to adjust their position and a single rear quick-detach sling socket for use with single-point slings. This allows users to push their pistols forward against the sling for additional control when shooting with one hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our BSL and BTR Arm Braces were released on Friday and are now available online at Magpul.com and they’re shipping to retailers now,” said Magpul’s Scott Creed. “With classic Magpul aesthetics, the BSL and BTR are compatible with MIL-SPEC carbine receiver extensions and employ easy to use adjustment mechanisms. With integrated QD cups and M-LOK compatible slots, they provide ambidextrous sling mounting options that enable stabilizing sling tension to be applied for better control of your firearm.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there was a longer-than-average gap between when Magpul announced the braces and when they became available, Magpul anticipated the “insanely high” product demand for these and other new releases. On top of that, the entire global supply chain is being stressed as a result of local and national policy changes, making it even more difficult to pull off a big launch like this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the wait is now over and Magpul’s slick braces are in stock and available directly or from retailers everywhere and online. The suggested price for both braces is $59, with most vendors listing them around $55, give or take a couple of dollars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One more BSL and BTR feature are M-Lok slots which can be used as slots for straps, slings, and of course, M-Lok-compatible accessories. Color options are limited to black for now. Magpul plans to launch a third brace built expressly for MP5 pistols and other Heckler & Koch-pattern firearms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there’s one bad thing to say about these is the timing. While it’s understandable for Magpul to line everything up to make sure this is a strong hard launch, the Biden administration and the ATF are talking about ways to restrict ownership of pistol stabilizing braces or re-classify them as NFA-regulated items, like short-barreled rifles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Justice Department, within 60 days, will issue a proposed rule to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act,” said the White House in a statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there’s a silver lining to this it’s that Magpul is a staunch supporter of Second Amendment rights and a strong ally to gun owners. With Magpul officially in the brace business, the industry is now in a better position to push back on an openly anti-gun administration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
