President Joe Biden announced yesterday a slate of six executive gun control orders covering \u201cghost guns,\u201d stabilizing braces, red flag laws, and community violence intervention programs. He also named Giffords Senior Advisor and former ATF agent David Chipman to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The administration stressed that these measures are only \u201cinitial actions,\u201d and called on Congress to ban \u201cassault weapons,\u201d private gun sales, and standard capacity magazines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, the Biden-Harris Administration is announcing six initial actions to address the gun violence public health epidemic,\u201d the White House announced. \u201cPresident Biden is reiterating his call for Congress to pass legislation to reduce gun violence. But this Administration will not wait for Congress to act to take its own steps \u2013 fully within the Administration\u2019s authority and the Second Amendment \u2013 to save lives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gun rights groups vowed to fight Biden\u2019s measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGun Owners of America is wholeheartedly opposed to the unconstitutional gun control threatened today by President Biden \u2013 restrictions such as the attacks on homemade and brace equipped firearms and so-called \u2018Red Flag\u2019 Gun Confiscation Orders,\u201d GOA Senior Vice President Erich Pratt said in a statement. \u201cJoe Biden knows he cannot beat gun owners in Congress. Instead, he\u2019s circumventing the legislative process to impose his own tyrannical vision by executive fiat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Second Amendment Foundation, which focuses primarily on pro-gun litigation, vowed to sue if Biden\u2019s Department of Justice crosses the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe devil will be in the details,\u201d acknowledged SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. \u201cOur legal team will review them and we are prepared to file suit if Biden and his administration steps over their legal authority.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NRA chimed in as well, saying they\u2019re \u201cready to fight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These actions could require law-abiding citizens to surrender lawful property, and push states to expand gun confiscation orders.

Gun control groups praised the orders as a victory for \u201cgun safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
