The hosts of ABC\u2019s The View <\/em>can always be relied on for the best, most thoughtful reactions to current events, and they recently aimed their collective brainpower at the recent mass murders in Atlanta and Boulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former CNN analyst Sunny Hostin told the audience that Americans must stop equating \u201cfreedom\u201d with \u201cthe unfettered right to own assault rifles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat is not freedom because I feel like a hostage right now,\u201d she said. \u201cI feel like a hostage to the selfish people who insist on owning these type of weapons… You are not a patriot because you think you have the right to own these type of weapons. You are not a patriot. You should be taking care of your fellow Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No analysis on The View<\/em> would be complete without a few misrepresentations and outright lies, and Hostin\u2019s was no exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The right to own \u201cassault rifles,\u201d for example, is far from \u201cunfettered\u201d (much to the chagrin of gun-rights advocates). Americans are prohibited from owning firearms (including any kind of rifle) if they<\/p>\n\n\n\n
