{"id":142904,"date":"2021-03-11T11:33:31","date_gmt":"2021-03-11T16:33:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=142904"},"modified":"2021-03-11T11:33:31","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T09:34:31","slug":"montana-passes-constitutional-carry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/montana-passes-constitutional-carry\/","title":{"rendered":"Montana Passes Constitutional Carry!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Constitutional carry is now the law of the land in Big Sky Country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Law-abiding citizens will no longer need a permit to carry a concealed firearm in public under <a href=\"https:\/\/leg.mt.gov\/bills\/2021\/billpdf\/HB0102.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"montana-passes-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Montana Passes Constitutional Carry!\">House Bill 102<\/a>, signed into law by Gov. Greg Gianforte last month. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur Second Amendment is very clear: The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,\u201d Gianforte <a href=\"https:\/\/montanafreepress.org\/2021\/02\/18\/gianforte-signs-constitutional-carry-gun-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"montana-passes-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Montana Passes Constitutional Carry!\">said<\/a> at the bill\u2019s signing ceremony. \u201cEvery law-abiding Montanan should be able to defend themselves and their loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, HB 102 allows citizens to carry everywhere with a few exceptions: secure law enforcement facilities, federal buildings, courtrooms, and K-12 schools.&nbsp; Private property owners and businesses can still ban guns in their homes and work places. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with making permit-less carry the norm, the new law prohibits the state university system from banning firearm possession on campuses provided the gun owner has safety training and transports the firearm in a case with a gun lock. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/constitutional-carry-gaining-steam\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"montana-passes-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Montana Passes Constitutional Carry!\">Constitutional Carry Gaining Steam? Nine States Consider Lifting License Requirements<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Universities still retain some discretion in that they can deny certain students disciplined for substance abuse or \u201cinterpersonal violence,\u201d from possessing firearms.&nbsp; They can also prohibit guns at sporting events where armed guards are present.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCriminals don\u2019t care about safe zones or gun free zones. Gun control measures don\u2019t prevent criminals from perpetuating violence and other crime. Gun control measures step on the rights of law-abiding citizens,\u201d Gianforte said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Rifle Association was quick to applaud Montana for joining the growing list of states (<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2021\/01\/new-governors-in-montana-and-utah-promise-to-sign-permit-less-carry-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"montana-passes-constitutional-carry\" title=\"Montana Passes Constitutional Carry!\">17<\/a> and counting!) recognizing one\u2019s right to keep and bear arms as our founding fathers and framers intended. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of the NRA&#8217;s more than five-million members, we thank Gov.
