<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s no secret that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris want to disarm America<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Democrats controlling both chambers, it\u2019s not a matter of if<\/em> Congress enacts new gun control, it\u2019s really a matter of when<\/em>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sure, sure, pro-gun Republicans can filibuster in the Senate and probably stave off the more radical pieces of legislation the Dems put forth, for example that mandatory licensing and registration bill (H.R. 127)<\/a> will probably never see the light of day.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But lower hanging fruits like criminalizing private transfers<\/a> and giving the FBI 10 business days to process \u201cdelayed\u201d <\/a>NICS background checks (instead of the current three business days) stand a better than 50 percent chance of becoming law, one can argue.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In preparation for this eventuality, states and counties around the country have, over the years, declared themselves \u201cSecond Amendment Sanctuaries.<\/a>\u201d\u00a0 Which means, they will not recognize any federal gun laws that infringe on a citizen\u2019s Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida Rep. Jason Shoaf (HD-7) is the latest to propose such a measure, HM 1301<\/a>.  While several Florida counties have adopted sanctuary status, Shoaf wants to see it happen state-wide.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Second Amendment is a right and freedom on which our nation was founded. The President\u2019s proposed restrictions violate our U.S. Constitution,\u201d said Rep. Shoaf in a press released obtained by GunsAmerica. \u201cWhat\u2019s more, these actions limit our ability to keep our families safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shoaf contends that state sovereignty provided by the Tenth Amendment and affirmed by the Supreme Court prohibits the Fed from forcing Floridians to adopt any Biden-approved gun-control scheme.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to be clear. Should the Federal Government establish any measure to infringe upon the right to keep and bear arms, I fully intend to do all in my power to ensure the State of Florida\u2019s authority is hard at work to resist any unconstitutional gun measures,\u201d said Rep. Shoaf. \u201cThat is exactly what this memorial declares.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A companion bill (SM 1630<\/a>) to HM 1301 has been introduced in the Senate by Sen. Travis Hutson. Both bills will now head to committees for review and evaluation.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If passed by the Florida Legislature, a copy of the memorial will be sent to President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and to each member of the Florida\u2019s Congressional delegation.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
