Amen. The point of wearing a mask is to reduce the viral load one comes in contact with because, as studies have shown<\/a>, the smaller the viral load, the less severe the illness is in an individual. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Putting aside the recreational uses, the point of owning an AR-15 is to stop a perpetrator, or a group of perpetrators, from causing one death or great bodily harm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two different tools for two different jobs.\u00a0 Milano presents it as an either-or scenario, which it\u2019s not.\u00a0 The optimal solution for many is to be responsible owners of both.\u00a0 Meaning, it\u2019s not enough to have them on hand, one has to also be informed as to their strengths, weaknesses, and applications in the context of a larger defensive posture against their respective threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, along with wearing a mask, I also try to stay physically active, I make sure to take immune-boosting vitamins and minerals (C, D, and Zinc) on a daily basis, and I wash my hands regularly. Collectively, this should improve my odds of beating COVID-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
What it won’t do, however, is save me from a violent criminal. For that, clearly, I need<\/em> a firearm. Ideally, I’d have an AR at the ready but since I live in the Empire State which is currently being run by anti-gun zealot Emperor Cuomo, a normally functioning AR with a standard capacity magazine isn’t a legal option for me. So I have to make other arrangements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But, as mentioned, owning a gun isn’t enough. I need to know how to safely access it, load it, and use it, especially under duress. Practice and training are key, as is having a larger home defense plan<\/a> that bolsters my chances of surviving a home invasion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The long and the short of it is this is America. We are a free people. Free to act without permission (unless you live in NY, CA, et al). Free to make choices that we believe are in the best interest of our safety and well-being (unless you live in NY, CA, et al). For some of us, it’s wearing a mask. For some of us, it’s owning an AR. For many of us, it’s both. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Blithely criticizing the choices others make shows a contempt for the freedom our Founders and Framers worked so hard to preserve and protect. It also reveals one’s ignorance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You know, instead of slamming folks who own modern sporting rifles, perhaps Milano should ask herself: why are they so popular? Why are there almost 20 million in circulation<\/a> in the United States? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If she gave it any thought at all, the answer would be unsurprising. Because just like owning a mask, owning an AR may one day save her life. COVID, despite what her pals in the mainstream media tell her, isn’t the only threat we face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
