{"id":138134,"date":"2020-12-01T19:21:11","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T00:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=138134"},"modified":"2020-12-01T19:21:11","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T03:59:58","slug":"armed-robber-fatally-shot-in-neck-by-concealed-carrier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/armed-robber-fatally-shot-in-neck-by-concealed-carrier\/","title":{"rendered":"Armed Robber Fatally Shot in Neck By Concealed Carrier"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Philadelphia man fatally shot an armed robber over the weekend at a WingStop location on the city\u2019s northeast side. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 53-year-old suspect was wearing a mask and gloves when he entered the establishment Sunday, around 10:30 p.m., according to investigators.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;(He) walked in, went behind the counter, announced a robbery and asked for all the money,&#8221; Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small told local news affiliate <a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/armed-robbery-suspect-killed-by-customer-police\/8378621\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"armed-robber-fatally-shot-in-neck-by-concealed-carrier\" title=\"Armed Robber Fatally Shot in Neck By Concealed Carrier\">ABC6<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s when the robber pointed a gun at that customer and demanded his cell phone,&#8221; said Small, referring to the 27-year-old with the handgun and the valid concealed carry permit. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;(He) pulled his gun (and) fired one shot at the perpetrator, striking him in the neck,&#8221; Small added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The perp would not survive the wound.  He bled out on the floor.\u00a0 Police indicated he had a criminal record, though the specific details were not disclosed. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the concealed carrier, the investigation is ongoing to see if his recounting of the incident matches what\u2019s on the security cameras. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We do have his weapon. said Marius Maiellano of Olney. &#8220;Pull a gun on somebody, expect to get shot.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This defensive gun use by a law-abiding citizen comes at a time when the city\u2019s mayor is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/philadelphia-sues-state-of-pennsylvania-blames-state-government-for-rising-crime-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"armed-robber-fatally-shot-in-neck-by-concealed-carrier\" title=\"Armed Robber Fatally Shot in Neck By Concealed Carrier\">suing the state <\/a>to overturn its preemption law, which blocks local governments from enacting their own restrictions on one\u2019s right to keep and bear arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proponents of overturning preemption want to, among other things, reduce the number of locations in which responsibly armed citizens can carry firearms, in effect, creating more soft targets for criminals. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the lawsuit, they argue, \u201cRespondents have allowed and continue to allow gun deaths and injuries to persist at appalling rates in vulnerable Black and Hispanic communities in our Commonwealth, and as a result, Petitioners have lost the lives of their children, family members, and residents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRespondents are deliberately tying the hands of local governments, and people in the most affected communities will continue to lose life and limb so long as the barriers created by the Firearm Preemption Laws remain in place,\u201d it continues. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s not at all clear, nor is it mentioned in the lawsuit, how disarming good guys with guns, like the concealed carrier at that WingStop, will make the city\u2019s criminals less dangerous. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-86354af1-f05d-49c6-a8ef-6b08bbf7a770\">***<a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/\" campaign=\"BuySellGA_Register\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\">Buy and Sell on GunsAmerica!<\/a>***<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s when the robber pointed a gun at that customer and demanded his cell phone,&#8221;
