Springfield Armory is breaking the mold with the announcement of the Model 2020 Waypoint<\/a>. The Waypoint is a newly designed bolt-action rifle that promises accuracy, lightweight, and features at an affordable price. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Springfield started at the very core of the rifle developing the Model 2020 Waypoint by designing the action from the ground up. The Waypoint receiver was designed to take advantage of modern machining including wire EDM to achieve tight clearances and a smooth action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The receiver and barrel have a Cerakote finish while the bolt assembly has a polished black nitride finish for wear resistance and lubricity. The bolt has dual locking lugs and cocking cams, a down-turned bolt handle and doesn’t require any tools for cleaning or disassembly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The action, threaded for an included scope rail, has a large recoil lug up front and internal feed ramps. It also has an enlarged ejection port and sliding extractor to make it as reliable as possible in all conditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All Waypoint rifles come with fluted threaded barrels and include an in-line radial muzzle brake. Springfield offers the barrels with standard fluting or with a reinforced carbon fiber tensioning over-sleeve. These rifles all have a .75 MOA guarantee, and models with the carbon fiber sleeve should be able to keep that up for longer strings of fire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, the Waypoint will be offered with two stock styles in two stock patterns, with two barrel profiles and four cartridge options to choose from, for 32 different models at launch. Those cartridges are 6mm and 6.5mm Creedmoor, 6.5mm Precision Rifle Cartridge and .308 Winchester\/7.62mm NATO. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Springfield offers a simpler stock for the Waypoint at a lower price point or a more expensive, more adjustable stock for a little more. Both stock styles are carbon fiber laminate for lightness and strength. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stocks are finished with shooter’s choice of Evergreen or Ridgeline hand-painted camo patterns and use AICS-pattern magazines across the board. Other stock features include five quick-detach sling point swivels, three M-Lok accessory slots on the forend for a bipod and an integrated Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, each Model 2020 Waypoint rifle comes with an included TriggerTech adjustable trigger that can be set from 2.5 to 5 pounds. Overall weight, depending on the configuration, starts at just 6 pounds, 9 ounces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pricing for the Waypoint starts at $1,699 for models with the basic carbon fiber stock and standard fluted barrel, which is between most production rifles yet below semi-custom rifles. Add the adjustable stock and it goes up to $1,825. The carbon fiber tensioned barrels add $575, which puts real-world and online pricing in the $1,500 to $2,000 range, give or take. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lot of shooters are going to look forward to trying this new action with its solid features and competitive pricing. Good things happen in 2020, too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
