Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is dead.  May she rest in peace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Trump has signaled to Republican lawmakers that the party should move to fill her seat on the high court \u201cwithout delay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us, the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices,\u201d Trump tweeted late last week. \u201cWe have this obligation, without delay!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell succeed at putting a pro-gun Justice on the bench before the president\u2019s first term is over, it would be a death knell to the gun prohibition lobby.  There would be a 6-3 conservative-leaning majority for the foreseeable future!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No one knows this more than failed 2020 presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg and his minions at Everytown for Gun Safety.  In a memo (see below) published on Wednesday, leaders for the group explained exactly what\u2019s at stake…  In a word, EVERYTHING!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJustice Ginsburg\u2019s replacement will have an enormous influence on the health and safety of Americans, and that\u2019s especially true when it comes to gun violence,\u201d said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs the NRA and its allies continue their campaign to use the courts to take us backward, it\u2019s more important than ever for voters to understand how many common-sense laws \u2014 and more importantly, how many American lives \u2014 will be put at risk if the gun lobby succeeds,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specifically, a pro-gun SCOTUS could strike down may-issue concealed carry laws, bans on commonly owned black rifles and accessories, gun confiscation schemes that allow law enforcement to seize firearms from individuals accused \u2014 not convicted \u2014 of being a threat to public safety, prohibitions on transfers and sales between private individuals, among others infringements on the Second Amendment.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the gravity of the situation, Shannon Watts vowed to \u201cfight like hell\u201d to stop Republicans and Trump from appointing the next justice before the 2020 election is decided. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe unequivocally oppose any confirmation to the Supreme Court before inauguration day, and every one of our nearly 6 million supporters will fight like hell to make sure that the American people \u2013\u2013 not President Trump and Senator McConnell \u2013\u2013 get to decide who picks Justice Ginsburg\u2019s replacement,\u201d she said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everytown is running scared.  Rightfully so.  All of Bloomberg\u2019s billions won\u2019t matter if the Supreme Court is loaded with individuals who recognize and uphold the operative clause of the 2A, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
