Following an ambush attack<\/a> over the weekend on police in Compton, CA, that left two Los Angeles County sheriff\u2019s deputies critically injured, former Vice President Joe Biden immediately took to Twitter to call for stricter gun-control laws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWeapons of war have no place in our communities,\u201d tweeted Biden. \u201cWe need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Weapons of war have no place in our communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Surveillance footage of the incident shows the suspect using a pistol, not a long gun, in the attack. It\u2019s not clear what size magazine the shooter had in the handgun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n California law already prohibits the possession of assault weapons and magazines over 10 rounds. Though, that 10-round limitation is currently being challenged in federal court<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The deputies, a 24-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were hit several times.\u00a0 The female officer was shot in the jaw and in the arms.\u00a0 The male officer sustained wounds to the hand, arm, and forehead, according to ABC News<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n “This is just a somber reminder that this is a dangerous job. Actions, words have consequences and our job does not get easier because people don’t like law enforcement,” LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a press briefing. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Villanueva later added that the two are \u201cgoing to be able to recover.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n As a state-wide manhunt is underway, the department announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n President Trump also tweeted out a statement about the incident. Only way to stop this!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alan Gottlieb, the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation slammed Biden for leveraging the tragedy to push a political agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe have watched the video of this craven act several times, which is apparently something Biden didn\u2019t do even once before he sent out that self-serving tweet,\u201d Gottlieb stated. \u201cInstead of calling for a ban on a gun that wasn\u2019t involved, perhaps Joe Biden should instead focus on the people who gathered outside of the hospital yelling they hope the deputies would die, and simply tell them to shut up and go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBiden\u2019s remarks illustrate an almost amoral attitude about a terrible crime,\u201d he continued. \u201cHe seems more interested in how he might use this tragedy to advance his anti-gun-rights agenda than he is about the lives of the two wounded deputies. We\u2019re not sure what to call that, but it\u2019s not moral leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nearly 40 police officers have been killed in the line of duty so far this year.
