{"id":130592,"date":"2020-06-24T09:41:12","date_gmt":"2020-06-24T13:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=130592"},"modified":"2020-06-24T09:41:12","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T21:14:43","slug":"rhode-island-bans-ghost-guns-w-10-year-prison-sentence-for-violators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/rhode-island-bans-ghost-guns-w-10-year-prison-sentence-for-violators\/","title":{"rendered":"Rhode Island Bans \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019 w\/ 10 Year Prison Sentence for Violators"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhode Island banned so-called \u201cghost guns\u201d this week in an effort to \u201cprevent gun violence.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone caught with a \u201cghost gun,\u201d by which they mean 3D printed guns, gun kits with 80 percent lowers, and unserialized firearms, 30 days from now will face up to 10 years in prison and\/or a $10,000 fine. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBanning ghost guns and untraceable firearms in Rhode Island is a major victory, but our work doesn&#8217;t end here,\u201d said Gov. Gina Raimondo in a post on Facebook. \u201cWe will keep fighting to prevent gun violence in our state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(At present, there is no way yet to know how often &#8220;ghost guns&#8221; are used in crime because neither the DOJ nor the ATF tracks crimes committed with &#8220;ghost guns.&#8221;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, the Democratically-controlled General Assembly passed the measure with overwhelming support. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Cynthia A. Coyne, D-32, who sponsored it claimed that these \u201cguns can easily facilitate criminal activity because they totally bypass the safeguards that protect the public.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added, \u201cOur state laws should be very clear that possessing, creating, or selling them is a criminal act, and we should be doing everything we can to keep these dangerous weapons from proliferating here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/korwin-infringement-is-illegal\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rhode-island-bans-ghost-guns-w-10-year-prison-sentence-for-violators\" title=\"Rhode Island Bans \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019 w\/ 10 Year Prison Sentence for Violators\">Korwin: Memo to Gun Ban Movement \u2013 Infringement Is Illegal!<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Owners of \u201cghost guns\u201d will have 30 days to serialize their firearm after that they become contraband, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/turnto10.com\/news\/local\/raimondo-to-sign-bill-banning-ghost-guns?fbclid=IwAR2ZyzLPYPx-lZhrzggr6TendFCJvVHzmwhF5b1E31AOQunApM4ZLdKkGs8\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rhode-island-bans-ghost-guns-w-10-year-prison-sentence-for-violators\" title=\"Rhode Island Bans \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019 w\/ 10 Year Prison Sentence for Violators\">local media<\/a>.&nbsp; Though, how the state of Rhode Island wants citizens to go about doing this is not exactly clear. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per the <a href=\"https:\/\/regulations.atf.gov\/478-92\/2019-24301#478-92\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rhode-island-bans-ghost-guns-w-10-year-prison-sentence-for-violators\" title=\"Rhode Island Bans \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019 w\/ 10 Year Prison Sentence for Violators\">ATF<\/a>, licensed manufacturers or licensed importers of firearms must mark each firearm with an individual serial number.&nbsp; But firearms made by individuals for personal use do not require serial numbers or identifying markings. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As GunsAmerica <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/nationwide-push-to-ban-ghost-guns-gains-steam-with-new-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rhode-island-bans-ghost-guns-w-10-year-prison-sentence-for-violators\" title=\"Rhode Island Bans \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019 w\/ 10 Year Prison Sentence for Violators\">reported<\/a> back in May, gun control advocates launched a nationwide campaign urging lawmakers at all levels of government to \u201cghost guns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhode Island has heeded that call.&nbsp;
