Last week a Florida sheriff issued a stern warning to looters, vandals, and rioters looking to prey upon residents in Polk County.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would tell them, if you value your life, you probably shouldn\u2019t do that in Polk County,\u201d said Sheriff Grady Judd at a news conference, according to WWLP<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI encourage them [law-abiding citizens] to own guns, and they\u2019re going to be inside their homes tonight with their guns loaded. And if you try to break into their homes tonight and try to steal, to set fires, I\u2019m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns,\u201d Judd added.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judd was responding to rumors on social media that agitators were going to descend on the Lakeland community to cause trouble.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sheriff also noted that law enforcement would do its part to keep the public safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut Minneapolis is not Polk County,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd I want to say unequivocally that the community here is unbelievable \u2026 But please understand, that if you come here to riot, to loot, to injure people, we\u2019re going to lock you up in the county jail.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While some municipal leaders have encouraged citizens to take up arms to defend themselves and their families, others have done the exact opposite.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, for example, last week told gun owners to put their faith in the city\u2019s police department should they be confronted by criminals.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cObviously we\u2019re aware of the fact that Illinois is a concealed carry state,\u201d Lightfoot said. \u201cDo not take matters into your own hands. Call the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve seen tragedy happen in this country, and recently, when people felt like they could take matters into their own hands. \u2026 Let me remind you of the killing of Mr. [Ahamud] Arbery. Do not pick up arms and try to be the police. If there\u2019s a problem, call 911. We will respond. But I urge people to show restraint and do not take matters into your own hands,\u201d she continued.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As GunsAmerica previously reported<\/a>, during the intense rioting that took place last weekend cops in Chicago were overwhelmed with service calls, fielding 65,000 calls on Sunday alone. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lightfoot admitted that even with a police force “four times” the size of the current department, the city wouldn\u2019t have been able to keep up with the calls. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You know, as it pertains to wealth inequality, people often say there are two Americas comprising of haves and have-nots.\u00a0 But maybe that is also true for 2A rights.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On one hand, we have those who have a right to keep and bear arms that is respected and embraced by authority and, on the other, we have those who do not have a celebrated right to keep and bear arms because it is undermined by the powers that be at every turn. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of one’s politics, the question everyone should be asking themselves during these trying times is which America do you want to live in? \u00a0One where you’re encouraged to protect yourself, your family and your property or one where you’re told to be a victim? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
