Gottlieb. \u201cNo law-abiding citizen should ever be denied the right to\npurchase a firearm or get a license to carry due to the color of their skin.\nWe\u2019re launching our new Equality Project now because in recent days the topic\nof racism has been on everyone\u2019s mind, and there\u2019s been an increasing interest\nin gun ownership among minorities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHistory has taught\nus,\u201d he observed, \u201cthat oppressive gun control has its roots in racism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gottlieb pointed to\nthe infamous \u201cblack codes\u201d that, among other things, regulated or prohibited\ngun ownership by free African-Americans living in the South following the Civil\nWar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis made it\nimpossible for former slaves to defend themselves against attack by vicious\nnight riders,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was wrong then, and it is even more wrong today. We\nwant to make sure this sort of social bigotry never rears its ugly head again.\nAt the end of the day, if all gun owners don\u2019t stand together, the Second\nAmendment will almost certainly fall apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Second Amendment\nFoundation is asking, \u201cIf you or anyone you know has been denied a permit to\npurchase or carry a firearm, please notify us immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Foundation will\nhave our attorneys get involved to protect the Second Amendment rights of all\nAmericans, especially minorities who are being discriminated against,\u201d Gottlieb\nsaid. \u201cSAF has a strong track record of protecting minorities, including the\nlandmark Supreme Court case of <em>McDonald\nv. Chicago<\/em>, plus lower court victories including <em>Ezell v. Chicago<\/em> and <em>Moore v.\nMadigan<\/em>.
