<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A man who attended a Black Lives Matter protest in Lubbock, TX, with an AR-15 has been arrested and charged with \u201cmaking interstate threats.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federal officials told local media<\/a> that Emmanuel Quinones, 25, attended the rally with a loaded Smith & Wesson AR-15 with the intent to shoot \u201cMAGA instigators.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Video from the incident shows Quinones holding his rifle at\nthe low ready position while protestors yell and record on their phones. Erin\nNealy Cox, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, said the man\u2019s\nactions caused panic among the protestors, and he allegedly refused a Lubbock\npolice officer\u2019s verbal commands to drop the rifle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Off-camera, an officer points his handgun at Quinones, which\nprompts him to drop his rifle. Then, one of the protestors tries to tackle the\nman, and one of the officers appears to injure himself. At the video\u2019s\nconclusion, Quinones starts a \u201chands up, don\u2019t shoot\u201d chant, which is repeated\nby the crowd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quinones allegedly shouted, \u201cthis is a revolution\u201d and \u201cPresident Trump must die\u201d as he was taken into custody, according to the criminal complaint obtained by local media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told police that he attended the protest with his rifle\nto protect demonstrators from \u201cMAGA instigators,\u201d who he planned to shoot on\nsight. He claimed the police could not identify these counter-protestors, but\nthat he could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports do not specify the evidence investigators used to\nbring the charges, but Quinones posted on Facebook on May 28 an image of an\nAR-15 lower from Palmetto State Armory with the caption, \u201cGonna get some more\nof these to off racists and MAGA people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInstead of respecting citizens\u2019 rights to respectfully voice their feelings, this defendant incited panic, putting everyone present \u2013 including those he claimed to support \u2013 in danger,\u201d said Cox. \u201cWe will not tolerate attempts to instill terror or encourage violence at otherwise peaceful protests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe FBI respects the rights of individuals to peacefully exercise their First Amendment rights. In this case, the defendant threatened multiple lives including the President of the United States and that will not be tolerated,\u201d said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Matthew J. DeSarno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Openly carrying a firearm is not a crime in Texas, but state\nlaw does prohibit displaying a firearm in a public place \u201cin a manner\ncalculated to alarm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quinones is vocal about his anti-Trump sentiments on Facebook and has been posting constantly over the last week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to his Facebook profile, Quinones is a graduate student at Texas Tech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If convicted, he faces up to five years in federal prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
