<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Biden is known for giving terrible self-defense advice<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Case in point, his remarks during an online 2013 WhiteHouse.gov Q&A in which he advised citizens against purchasing AR-15s because \u201cthey\u2019re harder to use\u201d and \u201charder to aim\u201d and \u201cyou don\u2019t need 30 rounds to protect yourself.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During that same session, there was also this little gem about how to use a side-by-side scattergun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barreled shotgun,\u201d said the then-vice president, adding that he tells his wife Jill, \u201cif there\u2019s ever a problem just walk out on the balcony here \u2026 put that double-barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right.  Because that\u2019s exactly what one wants to accomplish in a self-defense situation.  Emptying their gun, giving away their position, and engaging their neighbors with potentially deadly force as opposed to the armed rapist, looter, or spree killer lurking in the bushes.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, the 2020 presidential hopeful once again put his foot in his mouth this week when he told a crowd of black leaders that \u201cThere are a lot of different things that can change\u201d about police training.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biden today on police training: “Instead of standing there and teaching a cop when there’s an unarmed person comin’ at ’em with a knife or something to shoot ’em in the leg instead of the heart is a very different thing.” pic.twitter.com\/2xgqvlQtJ2<\/a><\/p>\u2014 The Recount (@therecount) June 1, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote> \n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInstead of standing there and teaching a cop when there\u2019s an unarmed person coming at \u2019em with a knife or something to shoot \u2019em in the leg instead of the heart is a very different thing,\u201d explained Biden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lot to unpack here but for starters, the perp is not \u201cunarmed\u201d if he is wielding a knife, which is, for the record, a deadly weapon — an implement that can be used to cause death or great bodily harm.  Sorry, Joe. Facts are facts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But perhaps to help Uncle Joe out we should examine this scenario in the context of his wife, Jill.  Because she is protected by an armed security detail, and because a lot of these training recommendations and reforms sound good in theory until it\u2019s your wife or your loved facing such an attacker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s assume for a moment that a large man with a 12-inch Bowie knife is charging Mrs. Biden, and subsequently, her security detail.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What would Joe have those armed guards do?  Take great care to aim just for the attacker\u2019s moving legs (effectively shrinking the target region)? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or instruct them to shoot for the biggest target on the body, i.e. center mass, to increase the chances that they land a hit that (God willing) incapacitates this maniac before he plunges the blade of that Bowie deep into the beating heart of Mrs. Biden? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Uncle Joe takes some time to think about the options more food for thought. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It must be acknowledged that during a stressful situation there are no guarantees that any of the agents will hit the perp, regardless of where they aim. There are also no guarantees that one shot, or even multiple shots<\/a>, will stop the attacker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is another consideration that must be mentioned. The reactionary gap, the time it takes for the agents to respond to the threat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As many of us know in the gun community thanks to the pioneering work of Sgt. Dennis Tueller, knife-armed assailants can close a distance of 21 feet in about 1.5 seconds<\/a>.  Only highly practiced shooters stand a chance of drawing and putting shots on target in that short period of time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the holster, anything inside 21 feet, even the most advanced shooters have a hard time engaging the armed attacker at all before the perp lands the first strike with his edged weapon.  And one strike may be all it takes to end a person\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all this in mind, it becomes overwhelmingly apparent that there is no margin for error. If a large, knife-wielding maniac is storming down on Ms. Biden every reasonable person wants those agents to open fire in a manner that stands the greatest chance of eliminating the threat.\u00a0 Period! End of discussion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barring unusual circumstances, that is instructing and teaching the agents to aim for center mass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not to make Uncle Joe too squeamish but follow up head shots may also be necessary (if possible and if the threat does not stop). It’s why certain units practice the Mozambique Drill — two to the body, one to the head. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you and I understand this, and millions of others with common sense understand this, why doesn’t our former vice president, a man who wants to be the next POTUS, understand this? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
