The company has consistently denied the allegations, but\nthey offered to replace&nbsp;the firing mechanisms on millions of firearms to\navoid continued litigation. They also recalled thousands of firearms and\noffered to replace the trigger because \u201cexcess bonding agent\u201d could cause\ntriggers to malfunction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CNBC published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/04\/06\/remington-trigger-problems-surface-as-class-action-settlement-deadline-nears.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"remington-in-trouble-again-court-filing-claims-repaired-model-700-triggers-still-malfunctioning\" title=\"Remington in Trouble Again? Court Filing Claims Repaired Model 700 Triggers Still Malfunctioning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">an article<\/a> in April of this year claiming to have reviewed \u201cnearly a dozen\u201d repair reports from Model 700 owners claiming that the triggers malfunctioned even after they had been repaired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citing this article, Model 700 owners Lewis Frost and Richard\nDenney filed a request asking U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith\nin&nbsp;Missouri to convene a hearing and seek information from Remington and\nthe class action plaintiffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is an obvious increased danger of unwarranted reliance on the safety of the replacement trigger mechanism because that repair is wrapped in the authority of the court,\u201d wrote an attorney in a court filing. \u201cHere the court-approved repair apparently does not eliminate the&nbsp;danger\/defect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/remington-settles-lawsuit-lays-off-122-employees\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"remington-in-trouble-again-court-filing-claims-repaired-model-700-triggers-still-malfunctioning\" title=\"Remington in Trouble Again? Court Filing Claims Repaired Model 700 Triggers Still Malfunctioning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Remington Settles \u2018Faulty Trigger\u2019 Lawsuit, Lays Off 122 Employees (opens in a new tab)\">Remington Settles \u2018Faulty Trigger\u2019 Lawsuit, Lays Off 122 Employees<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But the class action plaintiffs have not reported similar\nissues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur firms collectively received hundreds of calls regarding\nthe settlement,\u201d Eric Holland, an attorney for the plaintiffs, said in\nan&nbsp;email to CNBC. \u201cTo date, not one putative class member has contacted\nany of us regarding any&nbsp;allegations of any retrofitted firearms\nmisfiring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CNBC only spoke with one Model 700 owner who said his rifle\nfired without the trigger being pulled \u2013 even after the firing mechanism had\nbeen repaired or replaced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Montana resident William Cook said he took his rifle to an\nauthorized repair shop, but it fired after he switched off the safety during an\nelk hunt. Court Filing Claims Repaired Model 700 Triggers Still Malfunctioning\">Remington Fights Back Against Fake News 60 Minutes Attack<\/a> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CNBC cited two additional repair orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One owner claimed to be \u201cafraid to use this gun because of the safety issue involved.\u201d He said his rifle fired when he closed the bolt after putting a round in the chamber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another customer claimed that his gun malfunctioned only\nafter the repairs were done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI never had any problem before the trigger was replaced,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remington confirmed in the reports that the customers had\nnot altered the triggers, according to CNBC. But Remington was unable to\nduplicate the malfunction.
