Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unilaterally banned 1,500 models of \u201cassault weapons\u201d last month because, among other spurious reasons, \u201cYou don\u2019t need an AR-15 to bring down a deer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, effective immediately, it is no longer permitted to buy, sell, transport, import or use military-grade, assault weapons in this country,” he continued in his address to the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move happened following the Nova Scotia attacks in April, during which a determined killer driving around in a replica police cruiser and dressed as an LEO killed 22 people over a shooting and arson rampage that lasted 14 hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The perpetrator illegally purchased four of the five firearms in his possession, only one of which was described as a “military-style assault rifle.”<\/a> The fifth gun was stolen from a slain peace officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Needless to say, the countless gun laws and laws against murder already on the books in Canada did not stop this maniac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hope is that the new ban will stop the next determined killer. But if banning weapons is a viable way to stop violent criminals, Trudeau should have started with a knife ban — not a gun ban, argued a Saskatchewan firearms instructor in an interview with News-Optimist.Ca<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt would be more logical for the Liberals to have knife control where every man, woman and child would have to take an eight-hour course, pass a practical and written test (80 percent), then buy a license to be permitted to handle and buy knives,\u201d explained Gordon Dykstra of North Battleford.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, Dykstra acknowledged that knife control would \u201cbe as stupid as gun control.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the underlying point he was making is that knives are used more often in violent crimes than firearms are in the Great White North, according to data from Statistics Canada.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
