Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam fired back at President Trump over the weekend following a series of criticisms from the President about the recent gun control bills passed in Virginia<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere is a lot of injustice. When you look at Virginia\nwhere they want to take your guns away and violate your Second Amendment,\u201d he\nsaid Saturday during a press conference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c[The governors] are being unreasonable,\u201d he continued. \u201cVirginia\nis a great case, though because they are using this, they are trying to take\nyour guns away in Virginia and if people in Virginia aren\u2019t careful, that\u2019s\nwhat\u2019s going to happen to them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Friday, Trump tweeted \u201cLIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your\ngreat 2nd Amendment. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 17, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote> \n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Asked about the President\u2019s comments at a Friday news conference, Northam dismissed them as a \u201cTwitter war\u201d and said he\u2019s focused on fighting a \u201cbiological war.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n “I would just simply say, that as the governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, I along with his staff, is fighting a biological war,” Northam said<\/a>. “I do not have time to involve myself in Twitter wars, I will continue to make sure that I do everything that I can to keep Virginians safe and to save lives.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Sunday, Northam appeared on CNN with Jake Tapper, who\nasked the governor whether President Trump\u2019s comments might incite violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\u2019ve had some terrible tragedies with gun violence,\u201d\nNortham said, nodding. \u201cVirginians stood up. They spoke. They said, \u2018Enough is\nenough.\u2019 They said that thoughts and prayers, we appreciate those, but we want\nlegislators that will come to Richmond and take votes and pass laws.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI was pleased last week to sign seven pieces of commons sense\ngun legislation that will keep Virginians safe,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Northam also pivoted from the President\u2019s statements on gun\ncontrol to a criticism of the President\u2019s position on COVID-19 testing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n “Our President obviously has been unable to deliver on\ntests. Now he has chosen to focus on protests. And this is not the time for\nprotests, this is not the time for divisiveness,” Northam told Tapper.\n“This is time for leadership, that we’ll stand up and provide empathy.\nThat we’ll understand what’s going on in this country of ours with this\npandemic.
