(<em>Photo: Bullseye Bishop<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As your industry\u2019s trade association, we want you to know the National Shooting Sports Foundation\u00ae (NSSF\u00ae) is hard at work for you during this challenging time as the nation faces the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0NSSF is in contact with the White House, Capitol Hill and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www2.nssf.org\/e\/127421\/oads-2020-03-NSSFLtr032020-pdf\/3xyrl2\/305585357?h=M7BxuRtYJ1VZFmGwFaEy4Zid1F8fJpqT2qTCAaMzhQc\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nssf-imploring-government-officials-to-designate-gun-businesses-critical\" title=\"NSSF Imploring Government Officials to Designate Gun Businesses \u2018Critical\u2019\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>advocating<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that our industry \u2013 from manufacturers to distributors to retailers to ranges \u2013 be declared by DHS as a \u201cnational critical infrastructure industry.\u201d The\u00a0<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www2.nssf.org\/e\/127421\/ritical-infrastructure-sectors\/3xyrl4\/305585357?h=M7BxuRtYJ1VZFmGwFaEy4Zid1F8fJpqT2qTCAaMzhQc\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nssf-imploring-government-officials-to-designate-gun-businesses-critical\" title=\"NSSF Imploring Government Officials to Designate Gun Businesses \u2018Critical\u2019\" target=\"_blank\">DHS list<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is only guidance to states and local governments and does not carry the force of law.\u00a0Therefore, NSSF is proactively working at the state and local level to advocate that our industry be exempted from any emergency ordinances or orders as \u201cessential businesses.\u201d<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>For example, through NSSF\u2019s efforts, a proposed city ordnance in Albuquerque, N.M., to shutter firearm retailers was defeated.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Most recently, in response to NSSF\u2019s efforts, the Governor of Illinois, in his emergency \u201cshelter in place\u201d\u00a0<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www2.nssf.org\/e\/127421\/ritzker-Stay-at-Home-Order-pdf\/3xyrl6\/305585357?h=M7BxuRtYJ1VZFmGwFaEy4Zid1F8fJpqT2qTCAaMzhQc\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nssf-imploring-government-officials-to-designate-gun-businesses-critical\" title=\"NSSF Imploring Government Officials to Designate Gun Businesses \u2018Critical\u2019\" target=\"_blank\">executive order<\/a><\/strong>, declared that firearm and ammunition suppliers and retailers are \u201cessential\u201d and may remain open for business. paint, flat glass; electrical, plumbing and heating material; sanitary equipment; personal hygiene products; food, food additives, ingredients and components; medical and orthopedic equipment; optics and photography equipment; diagnostics, food and beverages, chemicals, soaps and detergent;\u00a0<\/em><strong><em>and firearm and ammunition suppliers and retailers for purposes of safety and
