<\/p>\n\n\n

The PC Carbine series has been a runaway success for Ruger and the company isn’t about to slow things down any time soon. Right now Ruger is announcing their new PC Charger<\/a>, a takedown pistol based on the PC Carbine and Ruger Charger series.<\/p>\n\n\n

Chambered for 9mm Luger, the new PC Charger uses Ruger or Glock-pattern magazines with an included adapter. It has a 6.5-inch takedown barrel assembly and a semi-chassis grip assembly that uses AR-style grips with Picatinny stocks, single-point slings and pistol braces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PC Charger is handy for small game hunting, excellent for self-defense and home protection, and great fun for any and every kind of recreational shooting out there. It has the ergonomics of a cut-down rifle — which in a way, it is — and longer-than-average barrel that will boost muzzle velocities higher than just about every other conventional handgun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Configured as sold it’s a pistol, but it can be more if one is willing to go through the NFA process and modify it into a short-barreled rifle with a full stock. One can also keep it as a pistol and use it with a stabilizing brace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the wide range of possible configurations Ruger doesn’t include these other accessories or sights with the PC Charger. The reality is that most people who will buy a PC Charger have a specific configuration in mind and it would be a waste for Ruger to include extras. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That helps keep the price down and the PC Charger, with either 17-round or 10-round magazines, has a suggested retail price of just $799. Typically Ruger’s pricing in-stores and online is less than MSRP but the PC Carbine is just so new and different that real-world pricing might be close to full price, at least for the near future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rear Picatinny mount is machined from 7075-T6 alloy aluminum for strength and rigidity with sling adapters, stocks or braces and it has two quick-detach sling sockets for more traditional sling setups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Charger’s receiver is also 7075-T6 aluminum and features a single integral flattop rail for red dots and other optics or iron sights. The barrel assembly incorporates a modular M-Lok forend that can accommodate even more accessories like the included 6-o’clock hand stop and is a great way to add a scout light or laser sight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like full-size PC Carbines the PC Charger uses Ruger’s dead blow bolt with an internal tungsten weight to ensure smooth operation opening and closing the bolt while firing. It uses 10\/22 trigger components and comes with a target trigger, standard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The controls are also reversible to suit both left- and right-handed shooters including the charging handle and magazine release. All of the aluminum components have a hard-coat anodized finish and the steel components, including the hammer-forged barrel, have a blued finish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 6.5-inch barrel is threaded 1\/2-28 for use with popular 9mm muzzle devices and suppressors. Every PC Charger ships with one magazine and a set of wrenches to disassemble and reassemble the chassis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the 9mm AR pistol is really popular right now, the PC Charger, without a need for a buffer and with its built-in takedown barrel assembly, makes for an even more interesting and flexible setup, and Ruger’s going to sell these by the truckload. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you can think of a use for the very different and very cool PC Charger, then there’s no reason not to pick one up. Honestly plenty of people are going to buy a new Charger and come up with a reason for a second, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
