There are a few upgrades that you can do to a factory rifle; one of these being a change of stock. Mc3 TPIM (McCubed Thermo-Plastic Injection Molded)<\/a> stocks is a sister company of McMillan who has some great new offerings. I got ahold of their Legend Standard Deluxe Plus Carbon Fiber BDM option and put it through the wringer. Let me tell you, I like what I saw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Legend Deluxe is a new stock from a fairly new company. McCubed is a sister company of McMillan who is on the rise with these new products.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

All of McCubed stocks are (currently) made with a different polymer than what other stock companies use. This change has allowed them to make stronger, stiffer injection molded stocks than the rest. Another unique feature of McCubed stocks is their solid construction. Overall, what I see in the Legend stock is another great option for a tactical style stock for your project gun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notable features<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Legend Deluxe Plus Carbon Fiber BDM weighs the same as the popular McMillan A5, coming in at 57 ounces. This was interesting to me because it could allow you to build a seperate training rifle that is cheaper to shoot and feels the same as your competition or hunting rifle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cheekpiece is cut out to the shape of a bolt shroud of a Remington 700. This allows you to remove the bolt from the action without removing the cheekpiece.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Some other things that I was relieved to find are the anchored nuts within the forend that allow the attachment of rails and other accessories. Due to how they are molded in, these points of attachment are extremely sturdy. You can find swivel sling studs located here for the attachment of a bipod and\/or sling, but you also have options for mounting a sling to the two included flush cup attachment points. Features that are added for comfort include the textured forend and grip, adjustable cheekpiece, LOP extensions, and a 1″ Pachmayr Decelerator pad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This stock comes with aluminum pillars for the action screws. This creates a solid and thermostable base for torquing the action tightly, regardless of what the rest of the stock is constructed of. These aluminum pillars are extended through McCubed’s plastic bottom metal which you can elect to buy with your stock. This small detail proves that they leave no detail overlooked while allowing for cheaper, more complex parts to be produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bottom metal is inlet slightly larger than needed, as I am showing here with the small gap running around the bottom metal and the stock. This is neither bad nor good; simply an observation.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Now that I’ve mentioned the bottom metal, I want to take a closer look at it. McCubed’s Polymer DBM bottom metal is, of course, polymer. Because of this, they are priced at $74.98 instead of $200+. I like this decision because the cost is always hard to swallow on a precision rifle build and it’s great to cut where you can. As mentioned before though, this DBM features aluminum pillars around the action screws which keeps everything structurally sound. This DBM also takes MDT magazines, so if you are an AICS magazine kinda guy, you’ll have to convert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Field Testing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mc3 Legend Deluxe that I was able to get in for testing was paired with a custom Remington 700 barreled action chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. Included in this system were an Atlas bipod and a Nightforce<\/a> NX8 4-32×50 among other parts. What I hoped to see was a high level of performance coming from this system when coupled with a more affordable stock option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I zeroed the rifle at 100 yards and then tested 3 different ammunitions from Hornady<\/a>. Following the ammo test, I took the rifle to distance and slapped some steel at distances between 500 and 1,000 yards. Overall, I was left very impressed with the results. The Legend Deluxe was a comfortable and customizable platform to achieve perfection and it proved to yield accurate and precise results when coupled with other quality components.
