{"id":123295,"date":"2020-01-30T11:31:58","date_gmt":"2020-01-30T16:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=123295"},"modified":"2020-01-30T11:31:58","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T12:55:52","slug":"bloombergs-10m-super-bowl-gun-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/bloombergs-10m-super-bowl-gun-control\/","title":{"rendered":"Bloomberg\u2019s $10M Super Bowl Ad Focuses on Top Priority: Gun Control"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you may have heard, Michael Bloomberg is running for president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an effort to gain more traction nationally, the billionaire businessman is running a 60-second Super Bowl ad that focuses on one of his top priorities, if not <em>the<\/em> top priority of his 2020 bid for the White House: gun control.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ad tells the story of Calandrian Simpson Kemp, whose son was killed in Houston in 2013. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLives are being lost every day. It is a national crisis,\u201d says Kemp in the TV spot that cost Bloomberg around $10 million to air during the game. \u201cI heard Mike Bloomberg speak. He\u2019s been in this fight for so long. He heard mothers crying, so he started fighting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I heard Mike was stepping into the ring, I thought, \u2018Now we have a dog in the fight,\u2019\u201d Kemp continues. \u201cI know Mike is not afraid of the gun lobby. They\u2019re scared of him, and they should be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calandrian\u2019s son, George Kemp Jr., was a football player who was hoping to go pro until his life was cut short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/neighborhood\/fortbend\/news\/article\/Suspect-sought-in-Richmond-murder-case-9535443.php\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"bloombergs-10m-super-bowl-gun-control\" title=\"Bloomberg\u2019s $10M Super Bowl Ad Focuses on Top Priority: Gun Control\">The Houston Chronicle<\/a>, George drove to a subdivision in Richmond on Sept. 26 around 11:00 p.m. to confront a man named Brandon Lacour, 17, over a personal matter.&nbsp; Upon arriving, George called Lacour on his cellphone and challenged him to a fight. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lacour apparently accepted the challenge but did not do so alone.&nbsp; He approached George with several other persons, one of whom was armed.&nbsp; Instead of fist-fighting George, Lacour ordered one of his buddies to shoot the football player. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The individual opened fire, per eyewitnesses, and George was fatally wounded. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMike\u2019s fighting for every child. Because you have a right to live.
