The numbers also show more\nreports of shots fired in the years following passage of Initiative 594 in\n2014. Prior to that year, incidents of shots fired never topped 300. Since\n2015\u2014the first full year following passage of the \u201cuniversal background check\u201d\nmeasure championed by the Seattle-based gun prohibition lobby\u2014the number of\nshooting incidents has not dropped below 300. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe find it beyond ironic,\u201d said CCRKBA\nChairman Alan Gottlieb, \u201cthat the exact opposite of what gun control proponents\npredicted has occurred. Their extremist agenda has failed to reduce gun-related\ncrime as was implied when they pushed through their various measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMore people were wounded in Seattle\nshootings last year than any year in recent memory,\u201d he continued. \u201cWhile there\nwere fewer overall shooting incidents, they can\u2019t really declare a victory\nbecause 73 people were wounded and 18 were killed, and that\u2019s more injuries and\nfatalities than any time since 2012, when the city also logged 18 gun-related\nhomicides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA check of the FBI Uniform Crime Reports\nshows the number of gun-related homicides statewide has crept upward since\n2016,\u201d Gottlieb added. \u201cIn 2016, there were 127 firearm-related slayings and in\n2018, the most recent year for which FBI data is available, that number had\nrisen to 138. That\u2019s not what we would call a success story where restrictive\ngun control measures are concerned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese revelations are especially important as the Washington Legislature opens to consider even more gun control proposals,\u201d he observed. \u201cWe\u2019re not sure the Evergreen State can stand many more of these so-called \u2018gun safety\u2019 efforts.
