The burglar had knocked on the front door, and when he didn\u2019t receive an answer, he went to the back of the home and broke the sliding glass door. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The homeowner retreated to her bedroom to retrieve her\nfirearm, and when the burglar confronted her, she shot him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Nevada is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usconcealedcarry.com\/resources\/ccw_reciprocity_map\/nv-gun-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"homeowner-kills-intruder-casing-house\" title=\"Female Homeowner Shoots, Kills Home Intruder Who Had Been Casing Her House for Hours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Castle Doctrine state<\/a>, and the homeowner had no duty to retreat, she also claims the man lunged at her in her bedroom. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/houston-pastor-wife-shoot-and-kill-home-intruder\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"homeowner-kills-intruder-casing-house\" title=\"Female Homeowner Shoots, Kills Home Intruder Who Had Been Casing Her House for Hours\">Houston Pastor, Wife Shoot and Kill Home Intruder<\/a> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After being shot once, the burglar ran out of the house to\nhis car and drove away. Police found the car crashed about two blocks from the\nhome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boyd says he saw the car driving away but didn\u2019t realize\nwhat had happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI did notice it was a car that was driving somewhat slow\nand that the front left tire was flat. If the car had stopped I was going to\noffer assistance with the flat tire,\u201d Boyd told local media. \u201cI didn\u2019t think\nmuch of it at the time until I saw the yellow tape and was able to put it\ntogether.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The burglar was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time\nlater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police say the perpetrator had been casing the home for hours\nbefore knocking on the homeowner\u2019s door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have some preliminary information that we believe the\nsuspect may have been here for several hours parked in front of the house and\ncould\u2019ve possibly been casing the area prior to the burglary that occurred,\u201d\nsaid Metro Lt. I got another shell in here\u2019<\/a> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While summer is the peak burglary season in most states, CNN <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2013\/12\/27\/real_estate\/christmas-burglaries\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"homeowner-kills-intruder-casing-house\" title=\"Female Homeowner Shoots, Kills Home Intruder Who Had Been Casing Her House for Hours\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> that burglaries also spike around the holidays, especially in the week after Christmas. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many families leave their homes unattended over the holiday\nseason, and in some states unshoveled snow can tell criminals that no one is\nhome.
