His new idea is aimed at those who have been convicted of crimes in other states. The governor&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-cuomo-unveils-1st-proposal-2020-state-state-preventing-individuals-who-commit-serious\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-york-governor-proposes-gun-legislation-for-2020\" title=\"New York Governor Proposes Gun Legislation for 2020\">website<\/a> released details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Serious Misdemeanors = No Guns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, state residents who have committed &#8220;serious&#8221; misdemeanors are ineligible to own guns in New York. Examples of these misdemeanors include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Certain domestic violence convictions<\/li><li>Forcible touching<\/li><li>Other misdemeanor sex offenses<\/li><li>Unlicensed possession of a firearm<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Legislation Applies To Non-Residents<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The major update to the law that Cuomo proposes is that individuals who commit similar crimes in other states will make them ineligible to obtain a New York State gun license. Cuomo believes this legislation will save lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/new-york-teachers-starts-hunger-strike-for-black-rifle-ban-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-york-governor-proposes-gun-legislation-for-2020\" title=\"New York Governor Proposes Gun Legislation for 2020\">New York Teachers Starts Hunger Strike for Black Rifle Ban, Gun Control<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This year, I propose a new law to prevent anyone who commits a serious crime in another state from buying or possessing a gun in New York,&#8221; Cuomo said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This new law will keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people and save lives,&#8221;  he added.  &#8220;I&#8217;m proud that New York continues to show the country that we don&#8217;t have to live like this &#8211; that we can and will end gun violence.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;Gun violence in this country is a crisis&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Cuomo believes gun violence is a top priority. He says that because Washington is too &#8220;spineless&#8221; to do anything about it nationally, he will make local changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Gun violence in this country is a crisis. The cause is clear: spineless politicians in Washington who refuse to stand up to the NRA and pass common-sense reforms,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The solution is also clear: New York&#8217;s strongest-in-the-nation gun laws which have made us the safest big state in the country. But until the federal government acts, states with weak gun laws will continue to endanger New Yorkers at home, and I will not tolerate it,&#8221; Cuomo continued.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gov.
