Outside the waistband (OWB) is the most comfortable of all and the fastest to draw, but it needs a longer cover garment. Ankle and off-body carry are specialty options, usually for backup guns or special situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kydex and Boltaron shells hold their shape, click positively into place, and keep the mouth open for one-handed reholstering. The shell is Boltaron wrapped in Cordura, and retention comes from an ejection port and trigger guard lockup that our reviewer described as positive and audible. He carried a Glock 48 MOS in it anywhere from 4 o’clock behind the hip to 1 o’clock appendix, wearing it straight with no cant, and said it disappeared under a flannel. Our reviewer tested the 1791 BH1 open top belt holster with a SIG 1911 and the RVH2S with a Smith & Wesson 586, and called the craftsmanship another level: thick steerhide, reinforced stitching, and a second layer of leather at the top to hold the mouth open. The BH1 has a slight forward cant, firm but not tight retention, and rides close at 3 o’clock where a button-up shirt covers it. Both arrived stiff, as new leather should, and he used the plastic bag trick overnight to speed break-in. He called the BH1 the most comfortable OWB holster he owned. Three belt slots take belts up to 1.75 inches and let you adjust cant, the muzzle end is open for threaded barrels, and IWB attachments are available if you want to tuck it inside. Our reviewer ran a left-handed Cuda with a 1911 through countless range reps and high round count classes, and the mouth stayed open for safe reholstering the entire time. Her Remington R1 DS was not on the model list, so she listed the closest pattern and noted her gun, and it fit exceptionally well. Our reviewer, normally a CrossBreed IWB guy, ran a Springfield Hellcat in the micro-sized Pro Draw paddle for a full summer in the swampy Southeast. You slide the paddle into your pants without unbuckling, so a quick run to the store stays quick. He calls it “courtesy concealed,” fine under a loose shirt when concealment is not critical. The half inch of separation from your body also cuts down on sweat getting into the gun. There is an adjustable draw tension screw. The draw was smooth once he got used to the weight. The catch: you need roomy pant legs, tight jeans will not work, and drawing while standing is slow. The shell is Boltaron wrapped in Cordura, and retention comes from an ejection port and trigger guard lockup that our reviewer described as positive and audible. He carried a Glock 48 MOS in it anywhere from 4 o’clock behind the hip to 1 o’clock appendix, wearing it straight with no cant, and said it disappeared under a flannel. Our reviewer tested the 1791 BH1 open top belt holster with a SIG 1911 and the RVH2S with a Smith & Wesson 586, and called the craftsmanship another level: thick steerhide, reinforced stitching, and a second layer of leather at the top to hold the mouth open. The BH1 has a slight forward cant, firm but not tight retention, and rides close at 3 o’clock where a button-up shirt covers it. Both arrived stiff, as new leather should, and he used the plastic bag trick overnight to speed break-in. He called the BH1 the most comfortable OWB holster he owned. Three belt slots take belts up to 1.75 inches and let you adjust cant, the muzzle end is open for threaded barrels, and IWB attachments are available if you want to tuck it inside. Our reviewer ran a left-handed Cuda with a 1911 through countless range reps and high round count classes, and the mouth stayed open for safe reholstering the entire time. Her Remington R1 DS was not on the model list, so she listed the closest pattern and noted her gun, and it fit exceptionally well. Our reviewer, normally a CrossBreed IWB guy, ran a Springfield Hellcat in the micro-sized Pro Draw paddle for a full summer in the swampy Southeast. You slide the paddle into your pants without unbuckling, so a quick run to the store stays quick. He calls it “courtesy concealed,” fine under a loose shirt when concealment is not critical. The half inch of separation from your body also cuts down on sweat getting into the gun. There is an adjustable draw tension screw. The rig uses a wide, breathable neoprene band with hook-and-loop closure, sheepskin padding between the steerhide holster and your ankle, a reinforced thumb break, and detailed molding for retention. The draw was smooth once he got used to the weight. The catch: you need roomy pant legs, tight jeans will not work, and drawing while standing is slow.
