A coalition of faith leaders in Oregon is orchestrating a grassroots movement to get gun control on the November 2020 ballot.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lift Every Voice Oregon (LEVO), as the group is known, wants to ban feeding devices with a capacity greater than 10 rounds, require a 5-day waiting period and training for prospective purchasers of a \u201csemiautomatic assault firearm\u201d and make the minimum age to purchase such firearm 21.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LEVO defines \u201csemiautomatic assault firearm\u201d as a \u201cselective fire rifle capable of fully automatic, semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have to get legislation before this state for people to vote on to say \u2018yes, this is not the kind of weaponry we want in our civil society,\u2019\u201d said Reverend Dr. W.J. Mark Knutson, the chair of LEVO and a pastor at Portland\u2019s Augustana Lutheran Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three ballot measures \u2014 IP 60, IP 61, IP 62 \u2014 read as follows: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

IP 60.<\/a> \u201cwill implement an enhanced safety training course, add a waiting period and require that the background check be successfully completed before a semiautomatic assault firearm is delivered to the purchaser, so that we ensure these weapons are kept out of dangerous hands; and \u2026 follow several other states by raising the minimum age to purchase semiautomatic assault firearms to twenty-one \u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IP 61<\/a> \u201cwill follow several other states by raising the minimum age to purchase semiautomatic assault firearms to twenty-one; and\u2026enhance the safety of residents, particularly children, of this state by prohibiting the manufacture, sale, or transfer of large-capacity ammunition magazines\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IP 62<\/a> \u201cwill enhance the safety of residents, particularly children, of this state by prohibiting the manufacture, sale or purchase of large-capacity ammunition magazines\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
