{"id":119466,"date":"2019-12-05T13:49:37","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T18:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=119466"},"modified":"2019-12-05T13:49:37","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T08:04:10","slug":"zimmerman-sues-martin-family-100-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/zimmerman-sues-martin-family-100-million\/","title":{"rendered":"Zimmerman Sues Martin Family for $100 Million, Alleging They Used Fake Witness to Indict Him"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George Zimmerman is back in the news this week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former neighborhood watchman acquitted in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin is now suing the teen\u2019s family, their attorney, and other involved parties for $100 million.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zimmerman claims that he was the victim of a conspiracy and that the defendants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/george-zimmerman-sues-trayvon-martin-s-family-100-million-damages-n1095916\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"zimmerman-sues-martin-family-100-million\" title=\"Zimmerman Sues Martin Family for $100 Million, Alleging They Used Fake Witness to Indict Him\">cited in the suit<\/a> \u201chave worked in concert to deprive Zimmerman of his constitutional and other legal rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the center of the claim is the belief that the prosecution\u2019s key witness in the 2013 trial was an \u201cimposter and fake witness.\u201d&nbsp; Moreover, that local and state prosecutors coached the woman, identified as Rachel Jeantel, into giving false and incriminating testimony against Zimmerman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Martin family attorney, Benjamin Crump, slammed the lawsuit as \u201canother failed attempt to defend the indefensible and a shameless attempt to profit off the lives and grief of others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/trayvon-martins-mom-runs-for-public-office-in-miami\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"zimmerman-sues-martin-family-100-million\" title=\"Zimmerman Sues Martin Family for $100 Million, Alleging They Used Fake Witness to Indict Him\">Trayvon Martin\u2019s Mom Runs for Public Office in Miami<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis plaintiff continues to display a callous disregard for everyone but himself, revictimizing individuals whose lives were shattered by his own misguided actions,\u201d Crump said in a statement. &#8220;He would have us believe that he is the innocent victim of a deep conspiracy, despite the complete lack of any credible evidence to support his outlandish claims. This tale defies all logic, and it\u2019s time to close the door on these baseless imaginings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The evidence that Ms. Jeantel was an imposter comes from author and filmmaker Joel Gilbert, who wrote the book and produced the documentary, of the same title, \u201cThe Trayvon Hoax: Unmasking the Witness Fraud That Divided America.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the trailer for the film:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you\u2019ll see, Gilbert claims to have tracked down the \u201creal witness,\u201d Brittany Diamond Eugene, who was allegedly on the phone with Trayvon during his encounter with Zimmerman. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apparently, Ms. Eugene is the half-sister of Jeantel, and when she refused to bear false witness, investigators prepared Jeantel to take her place on the stand, says Gilbert.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/clinton-invokes-trayvon-martin-florida-rally-push-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"zimmerman-sues-martin-family-100-million\" title=\"Zimmerman Sues Martin Family for $100 Million, Alleging They Used Fake Witness to Indict Him\">Clinton Invokes Trayvon Martin at Florida Rally to Push Gun Control<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not too eager to jump down this rabbit hole.&nbsp; Seems to me that everyone involved in this case is out to make a buck, from Zimmerman, who not only filed this lawsuit but also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/george-zimmerman-sells-gun-used-to-kill-teen-trayvon-martin-for-more-than-100000-a7037806.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"zimmerman-sues-martin-family-100-million\" title=\"Zimmerman Sues Martin Family for $100 Million, Alleging They Used Fake Witness to Indict Him\">sold the gun he used to defend himself against Travyon for $138,000<\/a>, to Benjamin Crump, who recently released his own book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Open-Season-Legalized-Genocide-People\/dp\/0062375091\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"zimmerman-sues-martin-family-100-million\" title=\"Zimmerman Sues Martin Family for $100 Million, Alleging They Used Fake Witness to Indict Him\">Open Season: Legalized Genocide of Colored People<\/a>\u201d via HarperCollins, to the Martin Family, who started the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trayvonmartinfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"zimmerman-sues-martin-family-100-million\" title=\"Zimmerman Sues Martin Family for $100 Million, Alleging They Used Fake Witness to Indict Him\">Trayvon Martin Foundation,<\/a> to the filmmaker who wrote the book and made the documentary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, if you\u2019re interested in taking that leap, a good place to start is this interview (see below) Gilbert did with FocusToday in September.&nbsp; Gilbert elaborates on his findings and why he decided to tell this side of the story. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the fate of the lawsuit, much will depend on the cooperation of the witnesses involved in the case.
