BELLEVUE, WA <\/strong>\u2013 Anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg, now considering a run for the presidency, has apologized for the \u201cstop and frisk\u201d program he ran while mayor of New York City, but the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms wants to know where his apology is to the 100 million American gun owners he has demonized and penalized for merely exercising their Second Amendment rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bloomberg\ntold a church group in Brooklyn, \u2018I got something important really wrong\u201d with\nthe controversial \u201cstop and frisk\u201d policy. CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said\nit\u2019s not the only error the former Big Apple mayor made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou\nalso got my gun rights wrong,\u201d Gottlieb declared. \u201cFor years, Bloomberg has\ntreated the constitutionally-protected Second Amendment rights of law-abiding\ncitizens like they are a regulated privilege. He\u2019s weaponized his vast wealth\nto erode those rights in every corner of the country by supporting anti-rights\ninitiatives and anti-gun politicians. He has waged a war on people who have\ncommitted no crimes, harmed nobody and merely wish to be left alone to mind\ntheir own business. To protect our guns and 15 round magazines, we need to ban\nBloomberg\u2019s billion round checkbook before he assaults our Second Amendment\nwith it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMr.\nBloomberg,\u201d he continued, \u201cwhere is your apology to 100 million gun owners?\nWhen will you stand before a microphone and acknowledge the moral bankruptcy of\nyour crusade to quash the Second Amendment? <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\nknow the word \u2018bankruptcy\u2019 is a term billionaires don\u2019t like to hear,\u201d Gottlieb\nobserved, \u201cbut honest firearms owners don\u2019t like such terms as \u2018registration\u2019\nor \u2018licensing\u2019 or \u2018waiting periods.\u2019 Just because you have deep pockets and a\nfat bank account does not give you the right to say gun owners have no rights.\nNobody appointed Michael Bloomberg as the arbiter of rights and freedoms\nprotected by the Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bloomberg\ntold his church audience that \u201cfar too many innocent people\u201d were stopped by\npolice, questioned and frisked if officers suspected that person might have\ncommitted or was about to commit a crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBloomberg\u2019s\nconfession belies his treatment of American gun owners as second-class\ncitizens,\u201d Gottlieb said. \u201cIf anyone deserves an apology, it is the law-abiding\nfirearms owners whose rights Bloomberg has tried to trample while he enjoys the\nperks of a wealthy lifestyle, including armed security that keeps a healthy\ndistance between the former mayor and the people he treats with such disdain.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n With\nmore than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for\nthe Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier\ngun rights organizations.
